Maaaate! Maaaate! Maaaate!

Twenty-something maaaates gathered on yet another really hot afternoon of a record-breaking summer for our 2019 Oz Day excursion. Some flags fluttered as usual, and one of our hares sported an Aeroguard alternative on her head and a dingo-waddy in her hand. She assured us that both were really effective (we didn't ask Dingo what he thought.)

Thankfully both runners' and walkers' routes were shady and there was a pleasant breeze. We returned to our starting point where Leave Pass was joined by all his friends.

Getting people to bring their own chairs is obviously one way of getting them to form a real circle.

Eweshggr is starting to show the influence of hob-nobbing with the caravan club crew....

A traditional main course of corned beef and salad was followed by lamingtons...all very tasty. Many thanks, hares, for a great walk/run and meal on a really hot Oz Day!

Cadbury was awarded a down, down for being closely related to a winner of an OAM...congratulations to her mum!

Next Sunday Feral will be setting her first walk - woohoo! She was one of the stars of this year's SPADEwerx panto, but I missed posting her picture last week. Here she is as Fancy Nancy the drummer and stylist extraordinaire! - I wonder if she'll be wearing something different on Sunday?

Next run details
When: Sunday 3rd February, 5 pm
Where: Bert Hall Reserve, Linkwood Drive, Ferny Hills. Here's a map!
Hares: Feral, Jamesbondage and Redbreast

Off and on-stage performances

A number of hashers were strutting their stuff at a matinee performance of the 2019 SPADEwerx panto this last Sunday - just across the road from where the rest of the crew gathered at John Scott Park. Glutes is still with us, and Eweshggr brought along a couple of visitors from Sydney as well as Bugf*kr from the Desert Hash. And of course Payback was back from his extended trip to the Old Countries....

Due to the hot weather and general lethargy the runners let their standards slip on this one occasion and joined the walkers - and even allowed speed queen Strine to beat them home (but then, it's not a race.)

That huge animal Zoey came along to celebrate her second birthday, and Fizzer made some birthday cupcakes for the dogs to share. They looked so good that some of the human hashers had a taste....The rest of the Potluck feast was equally good.

Now for some pics:

Escargot was absent, "working" on Fraser Island with Dingo. Here's the view from her office:

Payback visited the Cambridge chapter of Samford Hash a couple of weeks ago while he was in the UK. Here he is with MalpracticeB Flat, his father, and B Flat's famous bike:

And now a few panto shots, featuring Budgie (Ma J), Cadbury and Culture (Buttercup the cow), Mile High (Captain Thunderbox), Mollie (the Savage Beast), Chinwag (Harper), Hugandkiss (Nelly Kelly), Miss Behavin' (Gumnut Blossom), Haughty (Bunyip), Shaggy (Lord Goliath the mining giant) and Superhacker (Professor Deepshaft).

It's our Ozday run this coming Sunday, so it's time to don those blue singlets and to show off those bum cracks....

When: Sunday 27th January
Where: The Gap Park 'n Ride Enoggera Reservoir carpark. (A map!)

Full moon at Raven Street

It's been a while since we called "On, on!" along the tracks of Raven Street and Chermside Hills Reserves (it was back in June 2017) so it was good to see that the bush seems to have done OK in the interim without us. Someone else had also chalked out a trail through the area, which caused a bit of confusion at times (but not much more than usual.) Those who complained that they'd been waiting 20 minutes for a beer until the runners returned received as much sympathy as they deserved.

It was good to see Hardcore and her 2.9 offspring. Payback also dropped in via Skype, and Shockjock and Le W*nk showed him that - whatever the weather was in London - the full moon was shining bright at Downfall Creek. The sight broke the camera, so there are no pictures this week.

Many thanks to our hares for a very enjoyable run - which took us through some virgin territory - and for a great meal which included vegetarian, lactose-free and gluten-free alternatives!

A number of our members will be taking part in a matinee performance of the 2019 SPADEwerx pantomime next Sunday. Those who are not will be meeting for village excursion and a potluck celebration.

Next run details
When: Sunday 20th January, 5 pm
Where: John Scott Park, Samford Village
Hares: M. Promptu and Le W*nk will set the run; Potluck will cater (please bring something to share)

Every person and his/her dog

seemed to have turned up for the first run of the year! The newest Hash canine - Pablo - was eager to be introduced, but was a bit lazy about tackling the walk or run:

Hands up, now - who believed Shockjock when he described the route as "flat"? How charmingly naive you are! Let's just say it was a typical Bunya run, made a bit worse by our Christmas excesses and warmish conditions. Mollie hitched a ride after exhausting herself at a SPADEwerx panto rehearsal:

And Le W*nk submerged himself in the pool, claiming that he needed to practice his breaststroking. We expect a report from Lax on whether the practice helped....

A failure in some new equipment meant that Shockjock's latest brews have been named "Mediocre" (a pilsner); "Aftertaste" (a brown ale) and "Immature" (a black IPA). To tell the truth, though, his worst brews are still better than the best efforts of many home brewers - after all, he was the Brisbane Brew Club's trophy-winning champion for 2018!

Many thanks, hares, for a great run/walk and meal!

Payback and his sister Megaphone are digging up their roots (spuds, of course) in the Old Country. She kissed the Blarney Stone, though heaven knows why she would need any assistance with talking:

And Payback pulled some of Ireland's finest behind the bar. It looks, though, as though he rather selfishly poured only enough Guinness for himself.

Let's record Lax's safety message for posterity. She urged us to drink responsibly and drive carefully. She said that she would like us to die peacefully in our sleep, as her grandfather did - and not in agony, like his passengers....

Finally, if you haven't yet booked your seat for the fourth SPADEwerx pantomime set in Sameford, it's not too late:

The sixth day of Christmas

was a good time for a bit of exercise to make up for seasonal feasting...and also for a bit of pre-loading before NYE. We achieved the first through a typically "flat" Clear Mountain run/walk - very clearly marked with plenty of flour. We achieved the second as we gathered beneath the grape vines at Charcoal and Strine's for a drink and pasta feast. The boys played with some model boats on the dam and the girls investigated the contents of the wine esky. It was a very pleasant way to wind up 2018, so many thanks, hares!

About this time in the cycle we usually look back over the highlights of the last twelve hashing months. This year these have included - but are obviously not limited to:

Our 2018 Australia Day run
A Sunday Roast in Upper Kedron
Plenty of rain in February and March
The welcome return of Superhacker
A Hash trip to Girraween
Interhash in Fiji
Bastille Day at Boggo Road
Fathers' Day 2018
Runs from some new locations - such as Ascot - and an Abba experience
Halloween in Dayboro
Shockjock's birthday pub crawl
The 2018 Red Dress run

On a sadder note - this year we also bade farewell to Darcy .

We're looking forward to a great Samford Hash year in 2019! Stay safe, and don't drink and drive - you might spill it in your lap....

On our next run we'll be meeting a new hash canine for the first time. Shockjock and Miss Demeanour have made the following requests - no, dammit, they're stipulations! Orders!
1. Any dog who comes must be fully up to date with inoculations.
2. Remove your shoes as you come into the house through the front door.
3. Wash your hands.

Got it?

Next run details
When: Sunday 6th January, 5 pm
Where: Shockjock and Miss Demeanour's Bunya bure
