Root children? Isn't that illegal?

Here's a sign noticed on a run through Samford this last week:

Root children? Surely that's illegal!

For old times' sake, Superhacker and Hopalong hosted the meal and circle inside their house. It recalled that memorable occasion when we fetched up there like drowned rats, saturated all their towels, and (in some cases) changed into Superhacker's pyjamas.

Here's part of the crowd, occupying all available spaces.

According to Superhacker, she's identifying strongly with the old lady in this song (not that she's at all old):

And if she's the old lady, then who are we?

Downpours had obliterated the flour and chalk from sections of the run/walk, but we managed fine - in some cases finding ourselves running the trail in reverse. Never mind. This was the area where Darcy disappeared a few years back. This time he stayed on the lead....

There was a down, down for Miss Demeanour for stealing other people's drinks (she was a serial offender this week) and another for Huckleberry for turning 15 (and, no, his was not alcoholic):

Many thanks to our hares for some great hospitality (and great chili, too!)

And we really should record Le W*nk's joke for posterity:
Q: What do the Indian Ocean and the Pacific say to one another where they meet?
A: Nothing. They just wave.

Next week we'll be returning to the same general area, since some of our members have commitments nearby. It'll be a M. Promptu/ Potluck affair, so please bring something to share. And let's hope that Council has fixed the toilets in the park!

Next run details
When: Sunday 1st March, 5 pm
Where: Robertson Park, corner Lambert Road and Indooroopilly Road, Taringa. Here's a map!
Hares: M. Promptu will set the run; Potluck will cater (please bring something to share)

Four and twenty Hash years...

24 years! As Eweshggr would have said (had he not been in NZ) you get less for murder....It seems hardly any time since our big 21st birthday celebration at the same venue. Thanks especially to our hares! And thanks also to the others who contributed to a great night: Shockjock (his latest brew), Floater (cupcakes and sparklers) and Hash Cash (champagne).

The rolling topography meant that a 5.5 k run took a full hour. Surely the runners didn't walk up this grassy knoll? (To be fair, this was probably hill number 55 on the trail.)

Proof that they made it to the top - 11 runners in all. The short-cutting walkers were probably home by this time:

Our birthday celebrations included a traditional naming ceremony for 2 new members - Legover and Down There. We're looking forward to another 24 years of running with you, guys!

A conflagration occurred amongst the celebratory cupcakes and Hash cookies:

Earlier in the week a bunch of us made a serious but futile attempt to sample all the beers at the German club. Thanks to Topless for the photography!

And on the same week that Samford Hash turned 24, Trudi Fruti turned 21(?) and our youngest member, Eloise, turned a big 12 months! More photos to follow in future posts....

Next run details
When: Sunday 22nd February, 5 pm
Where: 24 (approx) Crag Road, Taringa - this is it!
Hares: Superhacker and Hopalong

Down (down) by the riverside

It was another blisteringly hot, very sunny day, but 25 cool and shady characters turned up for a reasonably shady excursion along the South Pine...continuing the exploration of the area we began on Australia Day.

Back home at the park - dehydrated and exhausted - we almost ran out of beer and definitely ran out of food. Down, downs are to follow

Thanks to Mile High for the photography:

Next Sunday marks our 24th Anniversary and we'll be celebrating at Charcoal and Strine's! For those who'd like to make a special contribution to Hash Cash, this is a "Musical Instruments" Anniversary. I'm sure we've got an unwanted vuvuzela somewhere....

Finally, while Leave Pass is safely away overseas, here are a few Yorkshire stories, courtesy of Charcoal and Strine:

The police have just released details of a new drug craze that is being carried out in Yorkshire nightclubs. Apparently club goers have started injecting Ecstasy just above their front teeth. Police say the dangerous practice is called "e by gum."

A Yorkshireman takes his cat to the vet.
Yorkshireman: "Ayup, lad, I need to talk to thee about me cat."
Vet: "Is it a tom ?"
Yorkshireman: "Nay, I've browt it with uz."

A Yorkshireman's dog dies and he decides to have a gold statue made by a jeweller to remember the dog by.
Yorkshireman: "Can tha mek us a gold statue of yon dog ?"
Jeweller: "Do you want it 18 carat ?"
Yorkshireman: "No, I want it chewin' a bone yer daft bugger !"

A bloke from Barnsley with piles asks the chemist "Nah then lad, does tha sell arse cream ?"
The chemist replies "Aye - Magnum or Cornetto ?"

Bunya Hillclimb

It must have been hard for our hares to find a hill or two around Bunya (it's such a flat area!) but they managed it. Logically there must have been as many downs as ups, but it didn't quite feel that way. Back home, a selection of scrumptious salads and meatloaf brought forth the enthusiastic comment "That was the best meal ever, Mum!" Thanks, hares!

Thanks also to Floater, who made us the willing guinea pigs for the slice she'll be cooking with the Grade 9s later in the week....

It was great to welcome B Flat and Malpractice back from the frozen north, as well as a few other folk we haven't seen for a while. We also farewelled Kermit - back to the Solomons on another 3 month medical mission!

Next run details
When: Sunday 8th February, 5 pm
Where: Sargent Reserve, Bunya Crossing Road, Eatons Hill. A map!
Hares: Culture and Haughty
