Off- and on-shore

11 of us were off-shore in Fiji this last Sunday at the end of an intense 4 days of Interhashing, while 9 others met on-shore in Samford at the end of an intense week of doing other (and probably more worthy) things.

Some Fiji highlights follow....

Fresh and clean at the airport:

The Red Dress Run at Lautoka - which raised some $40 000 for the Nadi Hospital. And we had a police escort all the way!

At the end of a hot Hamersley run:

Start of the Ball Breaker run..."We're going up where?"

The Ball Breaker run: 20.5 kilometres (according to Le W*nk's Garmin) of steamy cane fields, creek crossings, waterfalls, and a bit of hill-climbing....

The Momi gun site run...rainy and surprisingly cold on Sunday. You can see part of the curvature of the earth from here too, if you check the horizon.

Somewhere in Fiji:

Evenings were spent at Prince Charles Park, the main venue. The Samford purple was pretty noticeable...when we were not sporting ethnic costume. And we were able to meet up with a number of people we hadn't seen for a little while, including Heavy Metal (who visited us earlier in the year) and the irrepressible Tinkerbell.

And here are those who kept the home fires burning in Samford:

Since a number of members are still away enjoying resort life, we're having another M. Promptu and Potluck affair this coming Sunday. You're asked to bring some firewood, so we really can keep the home fires burning...Shaggy has volunteered to act as our arsonist for the evening.

Next run details
When: Sunday 3rd June, 4 pm
Where: Ironbark Gully picnic area. A map!
Hares: M. Promptu will set the run. Potluck will cater (please bring something to share). Please also bring some firewood - and a chair if you wish to sit around the fire.

On, on!
