What a dump

As we stood in the upper car park at the Bunya Sports Club the wind howled, delightful smells wafted from the local dump and rubbish gently swirled around our feet. It wasn't a very auspicious start to last Sunday's run/walk, however it proved to be a delight, except for the hills. Hopefully Miss Demeanour will pick up the pace next week and finish in a respectable time.

Thanks to Miss Demeanour for whipping up a wonderful meal. Did everyone see Shock Jock's new cold room? It's going to be a great home for the guinea pigs.

Men: come and be miserable...

It was a classic run at Mt Nebo last Sunday with on backs galore to tire out the runners and concealed track entrances to frustrate them. There were steep hills, a wild dog looking for its next meal, lots of ticks and a few locals to share the experience.

After the run/walk there was a tick inspection and ritual killings. Luckily, the groin checks were left until the hashers got home.

Thanks to the Shaggers for their hospitality and the chance to taste some of Scotland's finest.

As the days are getting longer and hotter we will revert back to a 5pm starting time on 18 October. This will be the Haughty and Culture run/walk.

As a secret woman's business weekend has been planned for 13 November in Melbourne, there will be some men who will be unable to cope with the separation. Eweshagger has suggested that they spend the weekend at Toogoom where they can all be miserable together. Counselling services will be provided. Please let Eweshagger know next Sunday if you are interested or send an email to samfordhash@gmail.com.

Lost...lost...lost...

- The walkers got hopelessly lost on the trail through the UQ campus...
- Shockjock took the runners on a tour of St Lucia to show them (inter alia) where he'd lost his virginity (we searched the area but couldn't find it for him)...
- And those who hadn't played tennis for 4 or 5 decades found that they had lost the knack of it (though we had a lot of fun trying to get it back)....

It was a varied and interesting run, taking us around the Great Court (shades of Chariots of Fire here), the Green Bridge, the Lakes, the colleges and the greenhouses. And this was followed by the great Samford Tennis Challenge (the real challenge for most of us was getting the ball over the net!)

Many thanks to the hares for arranging a really enjoyable evening. Payback has some pictures to follow. In the meantime, here's a little Peckinpah film: "Anyone for tennis?".

And hare's the here line for the next few weeks -

Clued-up hashers go fa(r)ther....

Leave Pass served up some more cunningly encrypted clues for the 2009 Fathers' Day run. Here are some ingenious examples for the record (and who cares if he won't be able to use them again?)

- Right a cattle track or garland of housekeepers (Charolais Dr)
- Old Master or pig painter? (Hogarth St)
- He's surrounded by mere backward tarts (Strathmere St)

We emulated the Duke of York up one of the steepest tracks on this side of Everest and found ourselves looking down on a huge and unsuspected hole in the ground. We had found "our quarry" for this part of the quest! Mental as well as physical exercise...golly!

The traditional Tight Jocks award for the Father of the Year was presented to the hare himself. He has made the traditional pledge to guard them with his life, and in particular to make sure that they don't see the inside of a washing machine until they are passed on to next year's winner.

Leave Pass shows off the family jewels:

Shockjock and Miss Demeanour are promising something completely different for next week's meet - the Samford Open tennis tournament! The order of events will be as follows:
4 - 5 walk/run
5 - 6 tennis
6 - on, on....
Please bring a racquet if you have one!

Payback's laidback run

Payback and Cash Converta laid a trail that took us old wrecks past plenty of other old wrecks in the Clear Mountain area. How did those rusty carbodies get down into those fearsome gullies? And how long will it be before they are fenced off and protected because of their heritage value?

Those who'd completed the Bridge to Brisbane were surprisingly agile up the hills. They'd obviously not run fast enough in the morning....

Leave Pass' cryptic clues will feature again on his Fathers' Day run.

Upcoming events include the Girls' Own Retail Therapy weekend in Melbourne on 13 - 15th November (about 11 takers so far) and Hash Christmas. Keep the last Saturday in November clear for this - like the stores that are just about to start putting up their decorations, we're suffering from "Christmas creep".
