Chili weather

The Bureau is predicting a warmer-than-usual winter, but there's no evidence of it yet. 22 hashers gathered in John Scott Park this last Sunday for a Giro d'Samford, and wrapped up warmly afterwards. The runners were joined by a fresh face, who said afterwards that she'd enjoyed the jog....

Here are a few of Snappy's shots from the chalk talk and the walk:

Back home in the park, Cash Converta served up a hearty meal of chili with tortillas, tacos & salad, all followed by chocolate. Many thanks to our hares!

Round 3:

Afterwards, a bunch of hashers crossed the road to the Farmers' Hall to try to work out whodunnit in Agatha Christie's "The Hollow". Don't ask them - they're sworn to secrecy!

Wilston wander

The general area of this last Sunday's hash made it into the national news with a police shooting after an alleged DV incident. Days Road was blocked off and hashers had to find an alternative route to get to the start.

Upstanding is well known for the excellent jokes he tells during the circle. The runners believe that he started joking early this week, during his Chalk Talk - he said that the trail was a flat one! Ha, ha!

Part of the trail followed the Kedron Brook, where there were many local dogs out, walking their owners. Some dogs even braved the icy waters.... Here are a couple of shots from the walk, courtesy of Saucy Sous:

Back home at the hares' place, Idle Vice and Upstanding produced a lavish spread which catered for all tastes and dietary requirements. A really special treat was the home-made cake and berry ice cream. Some more shots, courtesy of Cash Converta and Saucy Sous:

Next week a number of hashers are making the big trek across the road from John Scott Park to attend the SPADEwerx production of Agatha Christie's "The Hollow". The show starts at 6, guys - bring drinks and snacks! And if you do want to join the Hash table, book through Samford Design and Copy (3289 5241) and specify that you are in the Hash group.

Next run/walk details

When: Sunday 28th May, 4 pm

Where: John Scott Park, Samford Village

Hot mamas on a cold, wet afternoon

At this stage we have at least 15 members of Samford Hash signed up for Interhash 2024 in New Zealand - and those who have put their names down for the Ballbreaker run are talking about getting into training for it. But the rain this last Sunday was too heavy and cold for anyone to run in it, and we all ended up skulking around the walkers' circuit under umbrellas. In one way, though, this was good training for Queenstown, where the March average maximum is 20 degrees, and the average minimum is 5....

Dripping but cheerful, the brave souls who had turned up for this year's Mothers' Day event headed back to the hare's place for some very tasty chicken masala and - for everyone but the real men - quiche. Many thanks to Leave Pass for the washed-out trail and the meal!

A few shots from the walk, courtesy of Snappy and Saucy Sous:

And here are a few of Snappy's pics from the gathering at the hare's place:

We usually present our Mother Superior award on the second Sunday in May. This year, however, our intended recipient (who has been with Samford Hash for something like 32 years, but never won this prestigious piece of formidable foundationwear)  wasn't present. So we've determined to catch up with her the next time we see her and force her to model it. We look forward to this.

A Hash group is being organised to attend the SPADEwerx production of Agatha Christie's "The Hollow" on one of the Sunday 6 pm performances. Look out for details in Hash emails.

And a reminder - please try to leave some parking spaces close to our run venues for the Beermeisters and Winos. They have some heavy but essential supplies to deliver. Thanks!

When: Sunday 21st May, 4 pm.

Bears and bulls and brrrrr

Rain didn't dampen the spirits of the hashers who gathered at Ironbark Gully last Sunday - nor did the terrain. Here they are, setting off up the hill, to find that the rain had not obliterated all trail markings:

We last visited Winston and Wendy, the bears in the woods, in June last year. They're still there, showing off their sartorial whims for the benefit of their Instagram followers:

Another shot taken on trail:

Back home we found that Scratchit had managed to get a fire going despite the conditions:

and produce the makings of some genuine Aussie burgers. Many thanks to our hares for the trail and a tasty meal!

We celebrated a couple of Taurus birthdays. Bullish Scratchit is shown here cutting his cake:

And we sang "Happy birthday" to Culture through Idle Vice's phone:

Elsewhere in the world...our Hash caravaners were finally on their way home. Here's a shot of their final on, on on the road. The temperature was 8 degrees, and the wind chill was fearsome:

Breakfast at the Men's Shed in Glenn Innes:

Payback - showing off the medal he won at the Highland Fun Run in Glen Innes:

It'll be nice to have them back.

And finally, tickets for the SPADEwerx production of Agatha Christie's "The Hollow" are now on sale. There are a number of hashers involved - including Nipliquor as Sergeant Penny! Come and find out who did it (and what they did)!
