We got our jollys

this Sunday at Jolly's Lookout - and it was a pretty jolly crew that gathered for the on, on:

Our hares had excelled themselves in part-finding, part-creating a thoroughly enjoyable new trail around the ridges. They'd specially ornamented it with masses of wildflowers. They'd also provided a very pretty creek crossing, well furnished with leeches.

Leech hunt:

The prize for finding the largest number of leeches had to go to Bigtop, but a young lady who'd come along to assist Jamesbondage and Redbreast around the route probably caught the largest one.

Spielberg was back on a flying visit from Japan, and joined the run for the first time in 4 years! And Urass proved himself a bit of a runner as well, leading Shockjock off on a wild wild-goose chase after some phantom flour.

The decision about when we'd move to a 5pm (summertime) start was deferred for a week or two. However the date and venue for the Hash Christmas party has been fixed. It will be on Saturday 27th November at B&W and Trudi Fruiti's new mansion - just downhill from Jolly's lookout. Now's the time to mark your diaries!

Hashy birthday to you!

Many Samford Hash members joined Topless at Redcliffe to celebrate her birthday.

We began with a scrumptious and convivial breakfast at Sails on the waterfront (and a grandstand view of a spectacular powerboat racing mishap). We then adjourned to the nearby Redcliffe festival and markets before meeting up again at Chez Topless for lashings of cake and coffee.

Who'd have thought she was 50? But that's how many candles there were...

As Superhacker once said, "I didn't know hashers could eat so much..."

And here's a rare shot of a hasher without a mouthful (but that's because he's talking):

It was back to the beach after this for the walk/run. With such a load of cake on board, it's no wonder we struggled against the headwind....(By the way, the wind seemed to have died by the time Haughty tried to fly the kite he'd brought along. He was unable to get it up. But then, what's new about that?)

There were a record number of new shoes to baptise:

And Kumo, the newest hash hound, seems to be growing up rapidly:

Here's one of our occasional glances ahead at the Hareline:

A day at the seaside...

We're off to the beach this coming Sunday:

Many of us will be joining Topless to celebrate her birthday - starting off with brunch and following up with coffee and cake - before we set off on the run. I wonder if this will take us as far as Scarborough?

We might have a swim - and sit on the sand as well:

The dreaded lurgy has been making its way through the members of Samford Hash. Those who were well enough to turn up this last Sunday bravely risked a dose of lyssavirus by joining an expedition to the Yugar bat tunnel. Not quite as grand as Deer Cave in Borneo, but still jolly interesting....And Jack found the puddles of liquid bat guano near the entrance quite irresistible!

It was great to welcome a couple of visitors - TLS and C*msontheceiling from Atlanta, Georgia - who were on a flying visit to New Zulund and Oz. And it was also great to welcome Jamesbondage and Redbreast back from their trip to the Cape. We celebrated Cash Converta's birthday with the customary formal ceremony.

Sopping!

Samford Hash runs every Sunday, come rain or shine...and the rain certainly came this Sunday. Considering the weather, it was a pretty impressive crew of runners and walkers that set off from John Scott Park to celebrate Fathers' Day 2010 - and came back sopping.

It was good to welcome the Shggrs back from their latest jaunt. It was also good to welcome Japsai - a visitor from Hong Kong, who came by taxi from the Ferny Grove rail station to join us in the rain. That's dedication to hashing!

Thanks to Leave Pass and his team of Eagle Boys assistants for the run and the meal.

Fathers' Day is celebrated each year with the presentation of the Tight Jocks Award to the Father of the Year. This year's worthy winner was Shockjock, shown here strutting his stuff and showing off the impressive family jewels:

He has given the customary undertaking to guard the Tight Jocks with his life and make sure they never see the inside of a washing machine....

The cake featured an important event in the life of a father:

And...here is the song that goes with it....

Assorted Dads and offspring at the on, on:
