The run before Christmas 2018

'Twas the run before Christmas and all round the track
There were cries of "On, on!" and cries of "On back!"
There was plenty of flour and even some chalk,
And plenty of booze and plenty of talk.
Young Shaggy was there from his hospital bed
To prove that he wasn't yet thoroughly dead;
Le W*nk was back running and Glutes was in town -
These all sound like reasons for singing "Down, down!"
So thanks to Leave Pass for providing good cheer;
Next Sunday we'll meet for the last time this year!

Perfect timing

On a day when the BOM's predictions came true and a lot of rain did fall, our hares led us out in a lull between the showers - and we were back under cover before the heavens opened once more. We'd never realised there were so many lakes in Murrumba Downs - perhaps there are fewer under normal rainfall conditions? - and it was good to see some magpie geese enjoying them. Back at the hares' we tucked into a varied range of tasty fare, catering for the gluten-intolerant, the lactose-intolerant, and the rest of us (who are just generally intolerant.)

It was time to celebrate Mile High's birthday, Lax's birthday and the return of Squelch from Afghanistan with some quaint traditional ceremonies and some really bad photos taken with a mobile phone.

Important: Change of venue for run on 16th December

Given the weather predictions for this weekend (heavy rain, thunderstorms and the like) our hares Budgie and Miss Behavin' have decided to change the venue from Pine Rivers Park to their place in Murrumba Downs.

They have asked that hashers bring no dogs on this one occasion, as their back yard may be flooded and they have a puppy which has not yet been fully vaccinated.

Santa, long cuts and curries

Our first stop on this week's excursion from Arana Hills was to visit Santa (aka Shaggy) where he was entertaining the locals in all his finery. There were too many of us to all sit on his knee, but no doubt Cadbury made up for this later....

Cheered and refreshed by the encounter, the walkers tackled the next hill at a cracking pace.

The trail then took us on a circuit through Keperra and Grovely. It should have led the walkers back along the Kedron Brook bikeway, past some courting shopping trolleys (on their way down to mate in the creek - as they do.)

However the group chose perversely to follow Le W*nk on an unscenic long cut down Dawson Parade, ignoring the trail markings...oh, well.

The Indian Appetite restaurant fed us some excellent curries. No wonder it has so many good reviews. Escargot was very regretful she had to miss out. As she said, she likes nothing better than a steamy Indian....

Hash Christmas 2018

The theme for Hash Christmas this year was "Flowers, Fruit and Nuts" and it was interpreted pretty widely, with Jamesbondage, for example, accompanying his flowery drapery with a packet of Cadbury's Fruit and Nut Chocolate.... Culture sported a lovely bunch of coconuts and there were flower children aplenty:

Some people (for example, Tatty and Urass) surprised us by their ability to scrub up, while (according to Footsie at least) Haughty's  decorations made him look pretty hot. Shockjock appeared appropriately as the (brown ale) nectar-bearing bee. Eweshggr found a feathered friend to talk to.

Entertainment in the early part of the evening was provided by someone who decided to do some off-roading (why? when there was a perfectly good driveway to make use of?) and by the finally successful attempts to recover the vehicle (thanks, Budgie and Miss Behavin')

Entertainment later on was provided by Escargot's investigations of Leave Pass's hair (really??) and some dangerous play with knives in the kitchen.

We wound up with some good old party games:

Thanks to everyone for their contributions! Including the washing up! It was a fun night.

Those who stayed over enjoyed bacon and eggs on the deck in the early morning rays...and a number of us (over a dozen at least) met up again later in the day for a leftover/potluck recovery run from John Scott Park - despite the 42 degree heat. Well done, hardy hashers!
