Hash Babies

There was an air of excitement and celebration this week as 23 hashers and five dogs took to the hills around James Bondage and Redbreast's mountain retreat. We had just heard that Hardcore and Nathan are expecting a new little hasher in February.

Molly managed to hide her disappointment at the news that her reign as #1 hash baby will be shortlived. She remains determined to relish the remaining months of her role, and got them off to a good start by sporting a designer hash-babe T-shirt. It got Darcy quite jealous.

Our hares led us on a very scenic run/walk through the local forest followed by an amazing feast of roast ham salad and new potatoes - with an array of cakes to follow.

There was champagne all round to celebrate the news. The mum-to-be took the "weight" off her feet and was treated to a foot massage.

Then a disorderly rabble of hashers, claiming to be "in the family way" began demanding foot massages, and the highly trained masseurs donned nose pegs.

The toasting continued, as there was much to celebrate this week. There were a couple of Birthdays (Haughty, and James Bondage). A couple of Tai Kwon Do Orange belts (Chinwag and ShockJock). Some were running away to infect other parts of the world (Bon-Voyage Haughty and Culture).

Others have globe-trotting and/or significant birthday plans (CashConverta, Payback, BigTop). The dogs celebrated canine unity.

Before she left Hardcore was reassured that she didn't need to fret over a baby name as we had it in hand. We are really good at naming people. Not to alarm you at all Hardcore, but the working title appears to be ... the unisex Sasha, but we will spell it in the Yoonique way 'S'asha (short for It's a hasher). Please note the random placement of apostrophes designed to annoy and frustrate primary school teachers and government officials. If this doesn't work out we'll move on to the definitive-list-of-unusual-baby-names-will-destroy-your-soul.

Thanks to our hares Redbreast and Jamesbondage for a great walk/run and delicious meal.

Molly Does Dayboro

Molly is a little fluffy bundle who charmed the socks off the other (male) Hash canines when she paid us a visit this Sunday. She did pretty well on the 6.5 k walk too - for someone with such short legs....

Our hares Banger and Make an Offer had set a very scenic well-marked trail through some of the more recent developments around Dayboro, and past some pretty substantial gates and letter boxes. They followed it up with some triffic chili and apple crumble (served as 2 courses, I mean, not as a single dish....) It was yet another memorable meet in the valley of the North Pine - and the runners managed without all the climbing gear they'd assembled!

Virgin hares' First Time

Our first-time hares Loan Ranger and Piston Broke took us on a relaxed excursion along the South Pine River - providing a striking contrast to the strenuous hill-climbs of the last couple of weeks.

It was a perfect winter's day for a walk/run...and for the traditional Hungarian fare that followed. (I guess we could make a joke here about hashers being hungary, but let's resist the temptation.)

Here's the loving couple.  Their First Time didn't hurt at all - and thanks to them for sharing it with us!

We had 2 cases of knee surgery this week.  Charcoal's was carried out by a professional surgeon, who left a couple of very neat little holes.  Haughty's operation, on the other hand, was more of a rough and ready DIY affair. On reflection, a chainsaw was not perhaps the most appropriate surgical tool to choose. The stitches are coming out on Thursday and he hopes to be running again by next weekend.

Our hares for next week have asked runners to bring pitons, crampons, harnesses, ropes and karabiners. Sounds like fun!

"Not at all bad"

One of the visitors at this Sunday's run was a professional brewer - just retired after 37 plus years in the technical section of the Milton brewery. With some trepidation we offered him a tasting of the 2012 Hash Mash. He studied the brewing notes that Shockjock had prepared; warned us that different people have different tastes in beer; took a sip; and then another; and then offered his considered opinion: "That's not at all bad." A proud moment for master brewer Shockjock and his apprentices Jamesbondage, Urass and Haughty!

It was a typical Clear Mountain run in lots of ways - and particularly in the way that the route went up and down at lot. A couple of blazing braziers and lashings of nosh (including damper and golden syrup for dessert) were very welcome. And a number of members stayed on for a showing of slides from Charcoal, Strine and Eweshggr's recent outback excursion. Thanks to our hares!

Some virgin hares - Piston Broke and Loan Ranger - are going to be heading out with the chalk and flour this coming Sunday. Good on them!
