All that jazz

Those involved with organising the Samford "Jazz and Shiraz" event didn't make it to this week's Tour de Village, preferring to lounge lazily on the lawn. Those who did walk/run enjoyed a bit of a musical taster as well, as M. Promptu led them past the venue. Tinkerbell enjoyed his earful so much that he completed the circuit twice. Potluck (as usual) provided a varied and sumptuous feast. No down, downs for the short-cutters this week - there were so many of them we would have run out of alcohol....

There were some dazzling new shoes on display, being broken in for the Camino de Santiago in a week or two. What a blinding sight! They missed out on a baptism, and I'm not sure why....

Haughty and Culture completed the Bridge to Brisbane on Sunday morning. Due to a glitch in his registration, Haughty shone as the Number 1 Female in his age group. Good thing they don't go in for sex testing...though you'd think the beard might have given his secret away anyway.

And speaking of beards, it's time to celebrate our Father of the Year again this coming Sunday. As we always say, not everyone addressed as "Father" or capable of fatherly behaviour is a biological father, so we cast the net wide. The capacity to tell "Dad Jokes" is an important criterion - bring your best ones along on Sunday.

You'll find some memories of previous Fathers' Day runs here and here and here.

Finally, please bring a chair!

Green and pleasant land

A striking thing about Dayboro this last Sunday was how green it looked - when everywhere else seems distinctly dusty and drought-stricken. Our hares took us on a very pleasant wander, criss-crossing the green fields from the heart of the village. We retired to their hill-top lookout to enjoy green curry, bread and butter pud, and one of their famous Dayboro sunsets. Many thanks, hares! (Oh, and congrats on some lovely wedding photos.)

Our hash jeweller has been busy again...and a young lady who has walked with us a number of times received her Hash moniker this week. Congratulations, Feral!

We should also note that Culture's recent Ekka stand (in the Horticulture section) won the "Golden Hoe" award (pictured):

What was that, Eweshggr? You think that a re-naming is in order? Maybe not....

Next run details
When: Sunday 27th August, 4 pm
Where: John Scott Park, Samford Village

Canine mayhem

9 dogs romping among 25 people can really fill a backyard...but, golly, didn't they enjoy the romp! You'd thnk that the walk/run around Upper Kedron would have tired them out a bit, but it clearly had no effect. Here are 6 of the offenders:

And here is the longest-serving member of Samford Hash present on Sunday - icing his foot, wrapped in his security blankey, and guarded by one of his faithful companions:

Leave Pass took us on a circuit of the Kedron Brook flats and the surrounding hilly bits. He then showed off his Italian heritage again (was it his mother - "Mama Aldi" - who made him an Italian citizen?) and the hordes cleaned out his kitchen. Many thanks, Mr. Hare!

We're back to the charming green hills of Dayboro next week.

Golden anniversary run!

The average marriage in Australia lasts 12.1 years. So Samford Hash stalwarts and cradle-snatchers Charcoal and Strine - who tied the knot 50 years ago - are doing incredibly well....In fact they've been members of Samford Hash for more than half of that half-century, proving that those who hash together stay together (or something of that sort.)

They celebrated the occasion this last Sunday by taking us on a typically flat and level Clear Mountain run/walk before treating us to starters, pasta and some celebratory pavlovas back at the old homestead. Here they are, sharing a champagne down, down and wearing some ancient Samford Hash shirts:

Many thanks, hares - for this and for many, many other runs over the years! And also for all the other Hash activities that you have initiated, facilitated and organised! Our heartfelt congratulations - and we wish you many, many more anniversaries!

We also took the opportunity this Sunday to name someone who has attended a number of hashes over the last few years. Welcome, Fizzer! She had no difficulty down, downing her favourite tipple. She gets in plenty of practice every Saturday night....

Finally, the Samford Fun Run (in aid of the Samford Support Network) will be held on Sunday 10th September this year, starting at John Scott Park. There are 10k and 5k courses. Note that registration costs $12 till the 12th August, but then goes to $20. Register at https://www.samfordfunrun.com/

Out of the woodwork

A lot of people turned up for this week's run/walk - we stopped counting at 32 - and that number included a few whom we haven't seen for a while. As well as central Queensland tourists Charcoal, Strine and Eweshggr we also welcomed Floater and Scratchit (back from Portugal and Spain) and Chuck-Chunder and Sweet FA (back from several months of nomadism around Oz):

Our hares took us on a circuit of Dowse Lagoon and on through some festivities at Rotary Park...and then filled our lungs with healthful sea-air as we toddled along the Sandgate seafront. Lasagna, cottage pie and chocolate slice followed. Many thanks, hares, for a really enjoyable trip to the seaside!

Date claimer: our Hash Christmas party this year will definitely be on Saturday the 16th of December at Charcoal and Strine's. Come prepared to play some games, as we have in the past at this venue....

And Footsie leaves us this week for a trip chasing gorillas through the mist. Have a good time, and good luck with getting one home through Customs!
