Blogging from Borneo

This Sunday's run was a hareless affair, but the group took the opportunity to return to a developing area of the village - heavy rain had shortened our last attempt to explore it. For Floater and Scratchit this was their last hash with Samford Hash for a while - they're setting off on the road for several years.

10 other members will be away for a much shorter period attending Interhash in Kuching and going troppo in some other locations in the general SE Asian area. We'll keep the blog posted with these doings, and catch up on the local Samford news from the stayathomes when we get back.

Next run details
When: For those around Samford - Sunday 4th July, 4 pm - wave Old Glory, folks! (For those in kuching - a Harriette's wander on Wednesday, and the Red Dress Run on Thursday....)
Hares: (Samford) Bladerunner and Bendit
Where: Corner Samford Road and Upper Kedron Road, Ferny Grove

Darcy does Taringa....

Debbie may have done Dallas, but Darcy did Taringa.

In fact there were 2 delinquent doggies on this week's run from Anzac Park in Toowong. Jessie laid her owner low - on the concrete - cutting the walk short. And Darcy scarpered -prolonging the run as the runners searched and called. He did turn up the next morning to be collected from Taringa, evidently looking pretty pleased with himself. (He wasn't saying how many beagle crosses will be born in that area in the next couple of months.)

It was a really interesting run through some new territory - taking in the Botanic Gardens and the Brisbane General Cemetery. The runners took some time out to read inscriptions and to chat with a gent who was bedding down for a cold night on the tomb of Governor Blackall ("He doesn't snore much - it's pretty peaceful" he told us).

Miss Demeanour laid on some toothsome Moroccan-style nosh - good stuff! I can't remember all the jokes, but this one (I think) was from Redbreast:

"Two blondes walked into a building. You'd think one of them would have noticed it!"

Charcoal was busy with his camera at the 1000th run. Here's a shot of some of the gathering group modelling their 1000th run shirts:

And here's one of some of us tackling Leave Pass's ditty:

There are more of Charcoal's photos at http://picasaweb.google.com.au/Samfordh3/1000thRun#

Next week a number of us will be leaving pretty well immediately after the run for our trip to Interhash in Borneo! It will be a Brazilian (hareless) run from the village, with pizza to follow.

Next run details
When: Sunday 27th June, 4 pm
Where: John Scott Park, the village
Hare: M. Promptu - nosh by a pizza purveyor

1000 runs young!!!

fireworks

Our 1000th run saw a goodly crowd of eager hashers pounding the precipitous slopes of Clear Mountain and then devouring a gargantuan feast at Charcoal and Strine's. Here's the group that made it back to the start (we hope it's the same as the group that set out):

And here are some of the drinkers:

There were a number of apologies: Possum and Ha'penny were overseas, as were Le Wank, Vegemite, Superhacker and Hopalong. Kegguard (the sole founding member still in the area) was intending to make it but was ill, as was Roddy McDowell. It was good to welcome Uriah (an early member) as well as visitors Radar and Catatonic.

Here are some of the feasters:

The cake celebrated the fact that we have done it 1000 times:

And Shockjock cut it in a very safety-conscious way:

We also held another naming ceremony on the night - welcome to Afterburn!

Thanks to Charcoal and Strine - along with B & W, our only members who have been with Samford Hash since the earliest days - for hosting this run. It was a memorable occasion and a great night. Here's to the next 1000!

Next run details (run 1001!)
When: Sunday 20th June, 4pm
Where: Anzac Park, Toowong, near the playground. Here's a map.

Just a few more sleeps...

until Samford Hash's 1000th run! What a significant event! We're expecting some founding members, some early members, and a few visitors as well. A number are planning to make quite a night of it, and to stay the night as well....

Run 999 was an intricately complex event around the Boondall area, starting and ending at Hardcore's new house. She'd begun the day by running the Doomben 10 km event in 44 minutes, had then set the run, and then ran it again - she certainly lives up to her name! Thanks to her and to the nosh-suppliers Bigtop and Urass.

We welcomed Groundsheet and her young companions as visitors. Elvis and Lola turned up again as well - we'll make hashers of them yet - and we celebrated the latter's birthday with a very nice chocky cake.

In honour of the poodles here's another poodle story:

A couple goes to spend the evening with some friends. In the family room the two children are watching a movie along with the family poodle (who's coincidentally called Lola).

They can't help noticing that every time the children laugh at the movie Lola makes a laughing noise as well, and when they start to sniffle at the sad bits the poodle howls.

Eventually one of the visitors remarks, "Your poodle really seems to be enjoying that movie!"

"Yes," says Lola's owner. "I can't think why. She hated the book."
