A significant day

Each year at this time we experience a really significant day - it's the day on which the speed limit outside schools goes back to 40 k per hour and the police wait with cameras for some rich pickings. Apart from paying fines, we celebrate this day by wearing Chinese-made tat, eating some traditional fare, throwing thongs and drinking a bit. Oh, and running and walking a bit too. Here's the group who turned up for this year's event near the Enoggera Reservoir (minus the photographer, newly-named Snappy):

Hares Escargot, Dingo and Snappy set a walk that took in some great views of the water:

Some walkers also enjoyed other features they found along the way:

Back home we enjoyed some tasty meat loaf and salad and emptied the beer and wine eskys. As usual at this venue we were able to form a proper circle, and even allow for some social distancing:

We named someone who has been attending for a while - that is, Snappy! She certainly lived up to her name by taking lots of pics....Here she is, along with a certain birthday boy:

Prattle was by far and away our champion thong-tosser for this year:

And there were a number of strong contenders for the nibble-a-map contest, though probably only the vegemite versions should have been allowed:

All in all - a memorable occasion! Many, many thanks to our hares!

Fingers crossed (again)

Fingers crossed - we're just four and a bit sleeps away from 1 am on the 22nd, which is when the latest round of restrictions in Brisbane are due to be lifted. So by next Sunday we should be right to all get together....

After a couple of late drop-outs we had about 25 of us on Sunday across two locations. The lazy bunch at John Scott Park didn't take any pics, but here are a couple from H.T. Ireland Reserve, in which some Hash canines take centre stage.

It was Zoe's fourth birthday (she's just a big kid still):

So - next Sunday we hope to celebrate Queensland's defeat of the UK strain. We'll also be showing our support for Australia and Australian manufacturing by wearing some Made in China tat. Let's see if anyone can find a garment like the one Eweshggr wore a few years back:

Seriously though, we'll be holding the traditional thong-tossing competition, eating the traditional Ozday menu and otherwise behaving in ways that would have completely baffled Cook, Banks, Phillips and Co.

When: Sunday 24th January, 5 pm

Where: Bill Fursman Place Park, The Gap (best parking is in Yoorala St, probably.) A map!

Clang!

The lockdown doors suddenly clanged shut for three days this weekend, which meant that Charcoal and Strine's run had to be postponed - at the last moment. We were thrown back to hashing in twos or households...a bit of deja vu all over again, eh? What was new this time was the requirement to wear masks anywhere outside the house. And here are a number of us trying out the experience of exercising with a restricted oxygen supply....

Mollie was the only one of us who seemed to enjoy wearing a mask, and who actually ran with one on:

Shockjock set his own hash run, and still managed to get lost:

(Mind you, this old blogger has just been enjoying a couple of glasses of Shockjock's "spiced pumpkin porter", and is far from certain that he'll be able to find his way to bed afterwards)

Meanwhile Floater and Scratchit avoided having to wear masks at all by being creative at home (the leprechaun stairs are evidently for the pantry):

Though the lockdown has now eased, gatherings in public places are still restricted to 20 people for the next 10 days (unless the gathering happens to be for the purpose of watching test cricket). So for this coming Sunday we are back to where we were a while back - with a couple of venues, a sign-up sheet, and BYO food and drink. And you must have a mask with you, although you don't have to wear it outdoors.

Next run details

When: Sunday 17th January, 5 pm

Where: 2 venues - John Scott Park, Samford Village, and H.T.Ireland Reserve, Eatons Hill. Up to 20 people at each venue. Please sign up online via the link emailed out, or email us with your preference.

Hares: M. Promptu will set the run. BYO eats and drinks.

What day is it again?

This week's excursion from Upper Kedron took us though the newly-renovated Bellbird Grove picnic area...where we could admire lots of new bitumen, new speedbumps - and newly-laid flour. The renovated dam we passed was prettily responding to recent rain (thanks to Superhacker for the pic):

Back at the Upper Kedron playground. Leave Pass showed off his culinary skills once more, regaling us with a beaut curry. Many thanks!

Shaggy and Cadbury are on holiday, which might help explain why they'd turned up for a Hash walk the day before! In fact, they'd spent all of Saturday thinking it was Sunday - for example, being puzzled that the Ferny Grove markets weren't on! A down, down seemed the best way to help reset their body clocks:

And we obviously had to have another down, down for our newly-engaged couple:

They'd first shown off a very stylish engagement ring at the Wednesday hash last week:

Congratulations to them both! This sort of thing couldn't happen to nicer people.

Finally, a reminder that the SPADEwerx production of "Charley's Aunt" - featuring hashers and Hash hangers-on in various roles - is coming off in less than three weeks. One performance is already sold out, so don't delay in making a booking!
