Hare on a bike

Hail and 45 mm of rain had fallen in Mitchy an hour or so before we set out - so the trail was set by a live hare on a bike. He took us on a Kedron Brook circuit, with some interesting additions for the runners.

Found the bike, but where's the trail?

Back home with muddy feet, we feasted on some home-cooked delights, including hand-whisked pavlova and lemon meringue pie. Many thanks to our hares!

Why bother when Coles makes such a good one?

This is what it means to be a family Hash: we have young members, and even younger members, and even younger ones:

Our hash caravaners are (mostly) back in town after stopping off at Fick's Crossing:

And courtesy of Miss Demeanour, here are some stunningly scenic shots from last week's excursion around the UQ campus:

At the circle we settled on a date for our Hash Christmas party: it will be on Saturday 19th December at Trudi Fruti and B&W's Jolly's Lookout home. You can find some memories of the last time we partied at this location here. More details will follow....

And at next week's run/walk we'll take the opportunity to do a Halloween dress-up - so please, leave off your make-up and come as the scary real you. To the purists who say it's a day late we say Fooey - it'll still be the 31st October in some parts of the world! You'll find reminders of some of our previous terrifying encounters with ghosts and ghoulies, witches and weirdos here and here. And remember - we move to a 5 pm start time from this run!

University challenge 2020

Ah, memories! when you look back over the archives you find that we have run and walked at UQ so many times over the past decade that even those who were never students there will have chalked up some memories - including memories of the traditional Circuit of the Great Court. Jacarandas have featured frequently in our campus excursions, as have photo bombings of weddings and graduations. And who could forget the storm that drenched us back in 2011? It was at UQ in 2013 that a couple of our members discovered that they had both been graduate students at Notre Dame in Indiana - a university which has been in the news recently for supplying a certain candidate for the US Supreme Court....

We had superb weather for this Sunday's walk and run around the campus, and we were far from being the only people out enjoying the spectacle of the jacarandas. The trail was very well marked (congrats to all three of our hares) and the new playground made a great venue for the on, on. Excellent tucker, too - many thanks, hares!

The Great Court - almost as full of memories for Budgie (and some others) as the Regatta Hotel...

Some Tartan trackwork:

This week our hash caravaners have been climbing Mt Walsh (near Biggenden):

And practising social distancing, country style:

Week-old Xander met his grandparents in hospital:

And was home a day or so later:

Now for some Advance Warning: we will be moving to a 5 pm Summertime Start from 1st November (Halloween Run).

Happy birthdays...

Three birthdays to celebrate this week!

Firstly, Tatty and Squelch welcomed a brother for Dynamite and Hot Stuff, just before Sunday's hash. Congratulations to mum, dad, brothers and grandparents!

Secondly, we raised our voices in song at the hash to mark Superhacker's birthday. We do hope that in her next year she gets to spend more time out and about than she did in this last one! She used her fingers to extinguish the candles on her cake in a totally Covid-safe way:

Thirdly, Escargot's mum Ivy - who has joined us on a number of hashes in the past - recently commemorated her 90th birthday in the UK. Congratulations to her!

Our hospitable hares had set us an interesting run and walk past some really classy real estate and along the banks of Enoggera Creek. Points of interest along the way were provided by the properties of some rather eccentric neighbours....And a sumptuous feast followed. Many thanks to Upstanding and Idle Vice!

The Dump Mistress from Mt Nebo had rescued some genuine anthropological artefacts from the tip and presented these to SPADEwerx for use in a future production. Our hares modeled them with a great deal of flair:

A number of hashers are away in their caravans on a gentle SE Queensland odyssey. Here are a few shots from the travelers, featuring:

The Mary Valley Rattler - from outside and inside:

A sunset at Pomona:

Some hash fossickers:

And a stand of Hibiscus splendens:

A Camino hill?

A number of Samford hashers have walked the Camino de Santiago - some of them more than once. And lots of people use the inclines around Wahminda to train for the pilgrimage. So when hare Underpass announced that Sunday's trail included a "Camino hill" the walkers knew what to expect. In the event we enjoyed a very pleasant walk and run in beautiful weather conditions. And we followed it up with yet another visit to the Ferny Grove Bowls Club:

...where Kermit's meal included blue rice!

Many thanks to our hares!

Of course this was a long weekend within the school holidays, and a number of us were away, doing the sorts of things that Samford hashers do. In the area around Rainbow Beach Shaggy and Cadbury were doing some walking

and also some fishing

Meanwhile in St George, the fish were fighting back:

Only one or two things shattered the tranquility of this peaceful western town (and Lax was not one of them):

Upstanding and Idle Vice packed two holidays into the last couple of weeks - a kombi road trip to Woodgate:

...and then a 5 star trip to crocodile-infested Palm Cove. (Not sure if they took these shots, or just copied them off a brochure)

Thanks to Mile High for these fashion shots showing what the well-dressed traveler on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail is wearing these days:

And thanks to Superhacker for this snippet capturing an altercation between members of the Pink Team last weekend:
