"The horror! The horror!" 2012

Here's the horrible horde which terrified the good citizens of Ferny Hills with cries of "On, on!" this last Sunday.  (In fact the most terrifying things in Ferny Hills were the hills....)

The winner of the juvenile costume prize this year was Hopalong - who could have stepped straight off the set of The Addams Family:

And the bewitching winner of the grown-ups' (?) prize was Escargot:

Here are a few more shots from the Little House of Horrors:

Our frightful hares:

A hot couple:

Ouch!

Blood donors wanted!

Witch out!

Are you a blood relative?

A cheerful witch:

Trolling down the street:

Little ghost:

A horny lady:

The most frightening costumes of all:

Some members lent a hand during the on, on:

And a nutty skeleton oversaw the festivities...

While junior members took part in the traditional Halloween activity of bobbing for apples:

The menu for the on, on was suitably macabre by name, but delicious by nature - thanks to our hares!  And welcome to our newest named member - Parlez vous!

Next week's run will be the last one from Le W*nk's Sandgate sandcastle....

Next run details
When: Sunday 4th November, 5 pm
Where: Le W*nk's bijou seaside residence in Sandgate

Red hot chili

followed a red hot run/walk through Dayboro.  The 34 degrees promised earlier in the week didn't materialise, but it was still pretty darn warm.  This made the loops around the cool waters of the North Pine rather pleasant...the runners were also rewarded for puffing up the hills by the breezes they encountered on the top.

Here's a view of the runners' route, as recorded by our hare....

Next week we move to a 5pm start for our annual Halloween run:

Further date claimers for this busy time of the year:
  • The Hash seaside camp has had to be downgraded to a seaside day trip - Saturday November 10th.
  • Hash Christmas will now be on Friday 7th December (a week earlier than originally planned) and (probably) not at Sandgate.  But the theme remains the same: "On the beach!"
Next run details (Halloween Run!)
When: Sunday 28th October, 5 pm, repeat 5 pm
Where: Corner Linkwood Drive and Ridgewood Court, Ferny Hills
Hares: Redbreast and Jamesbondage

Superhacker's birthday bash

A little-known slice of bush along the Western Freeway provided the venue for another one of Superhacker's magical mystery tours. She led us through Anzac Park and over the Toowong footbridge for a close-up view of the new tunnel construction site. The runners then completed a circuit of the Mt Coot-tha Gardens, taking in the Japanese garden - for Moshi-Moshi's benefit - on the way....

This little jaunt was followed up by birthday moussaka and - yum - ice cream cake! Happy birthday, Superhacker! Here are some happy hashers bopping in celebration:

And a few more shots from the evening:

 Look what I grew!

 Cutting the cake:

 Not cutting the fingers:

Crowding round Mr Tickle (don't ask)

We'll be moving to a 5 o'clock start time from our Halloween run on 28th October.  You'll find reminders of appropriate dress for this occasion here, and here - oh, and here too!

Blowing hot and cold

Toward the end of the trail this Sunday the cool change that the BOM had been predicting moved in, and conditions changed almost instantaneously.  Before that it had been our hottest excursion of the year.  It was windy too...and the wind was scorching...and the scorching wind was always against us...and there was a hill....And while we're on the subject, why don't supermarket trolleys ever steer straight?  And why is the print in the new phone books so small?  And why is the Oz rugby team doing so badly?  And why do we have such a baa-aad gumment?  And what's become of that crispy bacon we had before the war?

Thanks to our hares for taking us through yet more new territory in the heart of Samford - and for some yummy Hash Nosh!

The Samford Hash Seaside Camp on Bribie Island is coming up rapidly on November 9th - 11th.  If you're planning to come, and haven't yet confirmed with Payback, please do so ASAP.

And here's another really important date claimer:  Hash Christmas this year will be on Friday 14th December at Le W*nk's place in Sandgate.  The theme is "On the beach".  If you remember the Nevil Shute novel and the film, then you'll know that the menu is likely to include fission chips....

Finally - we'll be moving to a 5 pm start time from the 28th October.  This will be our Halloween run, hosted by Jamesbondage and Redbreast.  Start dusting off those witch's hats and smearing fake blood on those ghostly sheets!

When: Sunday 14th October, 4 pm

Vielen dank!

As usual, Topless laid on a wonderful German banquet to follow a waterside wander from Woody Point. It was a lovely afternoon, and the sunset across the water was really memorable.

The walkers were in position to witness a memorable marriage proposal as well...on a large sign held up for a young lady as she came to earth beneath a parachute. "Aimee - marry me!" it read. Her innamorato was there on one knee with the ring as she landed. How could she refuse? And what will they do for the wedding?

We held another naming ceremony for someone who has been walking with us for a while, but who usually has to head off to Toowoomba immediately after the run. So welcome to Kermit - it's not easy being green!

Oh, and although the kids didn't pack up and go home when it got dark (as we'd expected), Culture did eventually get a turn on the flying fox at the park. You'll be glad to know that she waited her turn in the queue, and didn't push any little kids off....

Next run details
When: Sunday 7th October, 4 pm
Where: Burton Lane, at the park....
