As you were

Just when we thought things were reverting to normal in Queensland, we've been suddenly thrown back to where we were at the beginning of June. Who knows for how long we'll be "hashing in tens" this time?

Given that we only had about 30 hours notice of the change, it was remarkable how quickly hash members were able to organise themselves into groups, and we had to expand the original sign up sheet to accommodate four of them (groups, I mean). Well done, all!

By all reports, everyone had a good time. The folk who met at Teralba Park toured the streets marveling at the million-dollar houses being erected nearby and then used the free park wi-fi to put in some offers:

Tatty, Squelch, Dynamite and Hot Stuff formed a separate second group at Teralba, and kept a safe distance from Group 1. Tatty reports that "The walk was enjoyed by all except Hot Stuff who complained about his 'dying legs' the whole way, until of course we returned and a playground was spotted and said dead legs miraculously healed."

Here's the group that met at John Scott Park:

The group at Undambi explored the increasingly popular horse trails on the far side of the Mt Glorious road and returned for a chilly but interesting discussion which covid a range of topics.

Meanwhile in Rockhampton, Jamesbondage and Redbreast recced a spectacular trail up Mount Archer. Curiously, we would be allowed to meet there as a group of 30....

Back home though, it's groups of ten again this next Sunday, unfortunately. BYO drinks, eats, jokes, chairs...oh, and lanterns as well.

Finally, here's something for us to try when we can all get together again.

Ah, Queensland! Drizzling one day, perfect the next....

On a beautiful winter's afternoon, our hares took us on a scenic excursion along the South Pine. None of us had previously traveled some of the sections of the route, and indeed some sections had only just been opened up to foot traffic. The runners came across some mysterious civil engineering works that had been recently released from a thicket of lantana....

The hares' spacious and elevated front deck then offered the perfect location for enjoying the sunset and some of Mile High's culinary creations. Many, many thanks to Mile High and Hugandkiss!

Earlier in the week, some ten Hash Femmes and hangers-on enjoyed an art (and alcohol) event featuring dried leaves, paint, food and fizz. Here are some shots courtesy of Ha'penny and Cash Converta, showing some masterpieces in progress...

And finally, some of the runners once again missed some of the trail markings on Sunday. They might like to test their observational skills with this little exercise.

So we are offering 3 venues - 10 people at each - and asking that you sign up to one of them, either online or by emailing us with your preference. We will be going back to BYO drinks and eats - and please also bring chairs to help facilitate social distancing.

Altitudinal cool

This last Sunday provided a clear example of how altitude affects temperature: it was 18 degrees at the bottom of the Goat Track and 13 at Boombana. This was a great incentive to get out on the track to warm up - or else to stay sitting by the fire!

Dingo provided a very welcome blaze for the 25 of us who returned from striking out either towards Jolly's Lookout or towards Nebo Village...and Escargot laid on a hearty and warming meal. (It was what a  fancy restaurant would have called a "deconstructed RagoĆ»t" - with the components all separated so that Miss Demeanour could really savour the flavour and texture of the peas.)

Many thanks to our hares!

Here are some shots of the occasion, courtesy of Hugandkiss and Cash Converta:

Camp Mountain clamber

Once upon a time B&W took the runners all the way from Bellbird Grove to the Camp Mountain lookout. We didn't get quite that far this last Sunday, but both runners and walkers did get high enough to enjoy some fine views. And Banger took this shot of some galahs on the way:

Once back home we retired to the Upper Kedron playground where our hare Leave Pass had some really triffic curries waiting. His culinary skills just keep getting better and better! Many, many thanks! And no need to be embarrassed about the size of that pole between your legs!

Payback and Cash Converta, as always, did a great job of looking after the Hash drinks, cutlery, crockery, glassware and lighting. They continue their search for the perfect beer, and the unknown XPA they discovered this week was pretty darn good, despite its arty packaging....

Miss Demeanour is still in serious training for her Bloody Long Walk to raise funds for the Mitochondrial Disease Foundation. You can find out more about the disease here, and support her here!

And the Samford Hash Wild Hogs will be taking on the remaining section of the Brisbane Rail Trail on the weekend of 26th and 27th September. We'll be riding from Moore to Esk, then from Esk to Moore, and Shockjock and Miss Demeanour have already booked accommodation.  Non-riders are welcome to join us for a wild night at the Esk Grand Hotel on the 26th. Let Shockjock know.

We'll be back in the BFP this coming Sunday, gathering around the fire pit at Boombana.
