Ending up

The final run of the year was almost Kumo's final run of all time. Breaking loose from his collar, he took off in pursuit of a Doberman, then played in the traffic for a while before engaging Bigtop and Urass in a game of Hide and Seek through the old CSIRO grounds - where he succeeded in disappearing for well over half an hour. His minders certainly needed a drink when his native intelligence and homing instincts brought him back to John Scott Park.

Native intelligence and homing instincts brought the rest of us back there too, just before the heavens opened and dumped 25mm on Samford Village. Potluck as usual provided a varied and plentiful feast of leftover fare, including samples of several Christmas puds. Here are some of the crowd sheltering from the storm - including the wayward white wanderer:

It was good to welcome some Christmas visitors - firstly, Tinkerbell from the Brisbane Men's Hash and his son (not pictured - that young man on the right is Payback):

and, secondly, Leatherback from the UK (and, yes, that is his son on the right):

We aim to polish off some more leftovers next week - New Year's ones this time - and Cash Converta tells us we have enough in Hash Cash to fund a glass of bubbly as well. We'll kick off 2016 in style!

Whoosh! Did you see where the year went?

Don't know about you, but to this old blogger we seem to have whizzed through 2015 like a dose of Delhi belly. Can it really be that time of year for reviewing the archives?

Here is my selection of some notable events for the year - click on the links to relive the memories! And remember that there are many more images and run reports available if you have an hour or two to while away....
November and December of course saw 12 of us undertaking a Hash weekend away - a long weekend - a very long weekend - in India. Since we haven't even started to make sense of the jumble of impressions and images we collected we'll have to do some catching up next year.

Bigtop and Urass (assisted by Hardcore) hosted the penultimate run of 2015, taking us through Chermside Hills Reserve before introducing us to some new territory on the northern side of Hamilton Road. It was a tough test for those who'd been lazing around on the subcontinent for the last 5 weeks - stuffing themselves on curry and downing lots of Kingfisher beer - before stuffing themselves on Anything Other Than Curry at the Hash Christmas party on Friday evening....

Thanks to Payback for the following pics from Friday! And thanks to Miss Demeanour and Shockjock for hosting the party! And thanks to all for their contributions! And thanks to our hares on Sunday for a great run and meal as well!

And - as Tiny Tim said - "God bless us, every one!"

(Almost forgot - here are a couple of elves who didn't make it on Friday night, but who looked very cute on the Sunday run....)

Next run details
When: Sunday 27th December, 5 pm
Where: John Scott Park, Samford Village
Hares: M. Promptu will set the run. Potluck will provide lots of Christmas leftovers (we hope.)

On, on - to 2016!

On the beaches

Le W*nk reports that a number of Samford Hash members ventured up the coast this last Sunday to meet at Shockjock and Miss Demeanour's love nest in Caloundra. (Le W*nk evidently missed out because Escargot had employed him to evict a little old lady - just before Christmas too!) Apparently the run was flattish but longish and much enjoyed by those who made it.

Meanwhile, on the coast in India, a couple of Hash walkers celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary at Juhu Beach in Mumbai.

And a couple of Hash motorcyclists showed off their scars in front of the Harley memorabilia at the famous Leopold Cafe in Mumbai:

The Hash Christmas party this year is at Shockjock and Miss Demeanour's, this Friday - 18th December - starting at 6:30. Don't be late: Shockjock is putting on a free keg until 6:31! The jetsetters are eager to show off their Indian bling and share their Delhi belly stories.

Brisbane River Run

Since Superhacker was flying to the UK at the time of the walk/run, this report is a compilation of hearsay, "faction", and other scurrilous gossip sourced from various hacks on the ground including LeW*nk and Haughty

Last Sunday we once again dusted down our passports to  travel across the water to where's the beef and In your Dreams' West End Hide away. There was a small group to start, then Jake the Peg and Parasite, both Bayside hashers, and a former Neighbour of In your dreams Beate joined our merry Clan, The run was along the Brisbane river dodging bikes, bogs and prams. This time of year the low life of west end come out to play [Le W*nk will elaborate next time but I'm sure we augmented them]
The run/walk was long but good. The The OnOn  had a Americano theme. [I googled this and this is what I found (Superhacker)]

LeW*nk says this was great and big thanks to In your Dreams and Where's the Beef,

 Meanwhile in India ...

We enjoyed Goa beach, where Culture, starved of intelligent conversation, at last found someone to talk to.

We then cleverly flew to Chennai, just before the airport was closed because of flooding, and made it to our hotel just before it became impossible to leave it....

Three days later, we are finally out of Chennai after going a bit stir crazy The locals, washed out of their devastated shanty towns, have no idea how we suffered - no wi-fi, no mobile reception, no hot showers, and no beer....

Here are a few shots. On the first day we were  trapped there, the street outside the hotel was flooded to about waist deep, and Payback launched a paper boat with a SOS message (it didn't work). On the second day the water in the street was chest deep and the hotel foyer was flooded to a depth of about 30 cm. We thought this sort of thing only happened in Brisbane.

It was a dark and stormy night when...

A select group of Hashers left on time for a jaunt around Mitchelton on Sunday night. Most of us were unprepared for the storm that was brewing in the locality.

Our visitor from Illawarra Jackass had gone on a wild goose chase up to Mt Glorious but found us in the end. There was a hash rescue when BigTop and our youngest hasher got caught in the rain. The rest of us came back and took advantage of LeW*nk's array of dry towels. The runners apparently dodged the rain and came home relatively dry.

A delicious pasta with hidden healthy things (Chicken Liver) worthy of Mums-net was served by our hare LeW*nk. Then followed a down-down for crimes against humanity such as not admitting to having a birthday (Escargot and Hardcore) and editing LeW*nks prose beyond recognition and wasting his valuable time (Superhacker). Well LeW*nk, if you will submit your thesis to an academic at the end of semester it will be marked and re-written

Around the time people started leaving, promises of  Lemon Meringue Pie were circulating in hushed whispers. We will have to hold LeW*nk to that next time. Thanks Jackass for the photos

Meanwhile in India everyone is on a higher plane visiting no less than  fourteen 16th and 17th century churches in Old Goa on their Sunday afternoon Hash walk. Huge crowds celebrating the festival of St Francis Xavier meant they couldn't get in to the Basilica where his remains are.

Leave Pass's Mystery Spice Tour

Tradition dictates that, whenever the Hash meet at the LeavePass Love palace, the skies will open and wash away all the hare's carefully laid trail. And this week was no exception.

As we honoured another tradition.. (waiting for Shock Jock and Miss-demeanor and family to arrive) Le W*nk distributed umbrellas and LeavePass talked us through the walk/run. His insecurity about the permanence of his markings had finally driven him sacrifice a page from his Refidex on which he had scrawled the route in red, in an attempt to quell the tide of complaints.

Contrary to expectations the trail was well marked with thick blue arrows. It took us through some new territory of Upper Kedron and we got value for money when we were treated to a river crossing. Back at the five bedroom bachelor pad. Leave Pass served a choice of Mother Aldi's Best Lasagne or Home made Rogan Josh.

Leave Pass and Heimi then had to field questions about what a pair of bachelors did with so many spare bedrooms. Somehow the heady aroma of curry, and the thoughts of polygamous emperors and stately mausoleums transported us to the banks of the Yamuna River in the Indian city of Agra where we were treated to this apparition.

And then brought back to earth by what appears to be a  sample of shameless 10-to-the-bed slap and tickle Hash holiday behaviour. But we could've been misinterpreting it. Remember guys, what goes on tour stays on tour.

Meanwhile back at base camp things were also getting frisky when a seemingly innocent discussion between the runners descended into a depraved evaluation of shock jock's hot nuts.

During the hash circle we welcomed a visitor from Scotland and there were two really quite innocent PG rated jokes the likes of which we haven't heard since father's day 2012

Blessed are the Quiche-Makers

At 5.03pm four Poms lolled around moaning about the weather. Gastrick, LeavePass, Escargot  and Superhacker  having apparently forgotten their roots anxiously scanned the BOM radar and asked themselves if it was worth soaking their Smartphones/New trainers/Dogs for

... Just then the Shock-Demeanors arrived (doubling our numbers) with all manner of excuses about flat tyres and teenage parties ... Two of them were on bikes.  There was a minor leadership tussle between LeavePass and Escargot about whether the fickle hand of fate should take us clockwise or anti clockwise around Samford. Escargot won the majority vote and the walkers headed out of town toward the Samford Parklands Trail

The feared rain held off and an hour later we found ourselves back at John Scott Park where, as has happened at least once beforepot luck served up a carb-fest. In fact it was a quiche-off. Thankfully:

(1) All the real men were absent this week
(2) MissFit had sent us some Banana Cake for pudding

The backwoods of Bardon

It was a wet day, but the rain gods kindly held off for long enough to let Gastrick set the run/walk and for us to be drenched only in sweat. We completed a very enjoyable circuit through the burbs and bush around Bardon and over the lower slopes of the Taylor Range. Chili, salad and birthday cake followed. Many thanks to our 2 (and a half) hares!

We welcomed LAC from Jakarta - and he in return invited us to Jakarta's 2500th run at the end of January. We'll see how we go once we get back from India.

Visitor LAC, in Brisbane for a week or two:

Shockjock had brought along some of his version of Holgate's Road Trip Pale Ale - and it was very difficult to tell it from the original! He celebrated his hashy birthday a little later in the traditional way....

And Le W*nk, murmuring "Soft...soft..." found Escargot's hair irrisitible....

Next week a number of us will be in Delhi (we hope) while Le W*nk and Amazing will be trying to find something to do to pass the time in a hotel room in Port Moresby (hope they remember the Scrabble board.) There'll be a M. Promptu/Potluck run for the stayathomes.

St Lucia saunter

Kiwis were celebrating this weekend...their netball team, the Silver Ferns, had made it to second place in the Constellation Cup competition! Le W*nk must have celebrated the netball result so hard that he didn't make it to this Sunday's run. Here are 2 Kiwis (and honorary Kiwi Nipple Kamikaze) who had recovered sufficiently to come and skite (about the netball, of course):

(There was some talk of a rugby game this weekend as well, but I didn't get the details.)

No dogs turned up this week, even though Superhacker and Hopalong had laid a trail especially for them! Our thoughtful hares had also arranged some beautiful flowering jacarandas for walkers to pose under:

Back at the park after an excursion (for the runners) over Highgate Hill and (for the walkers) around the UQ campus, we tucked into some rib-filling chili and shepherd's pie. Many thanks to our hares for a very scenic and enjoyable outing!

It was good to welcome Nipple Kamikaze, a wandering hasher who spends half the year in NZ and half in Japan. He assured us that everything you may have heard about the life of a ski instructor is absolutely true....

Footsie's first time!

It's official - Footsie is no longer a virgin! She teamed up with Hash veteran Escargot to lay on our 2015 Halloween event, and 30 of us turned up to enjoy it.

As usual, there were some pretty scary costumes - and those who came au naturale were, if anything, even scarier....

Ghostly visitor Jake the Peg:

Zombie Culture:

Devil woman:

Payback shows how handy he can be:

Toga the hellhound and friends:

A scary pair:

And another scary pair:

And the scariest pair of all:

Is that you, Casper?

What a horrible, horrible sight!

Little Squirt shines:

The witch of the mountain:

The runners' loop took them up Eaton's Hill itself (Corncob remarked that around Gympie - where he comes from - it would be called Eaton's Pimple) before they joined the walkers' trail for a circuit through the leafy neighbouring burbs. Some beaut curry, cake and ice cream followed. Thanks, hares!

There were down, downs for our hares and visitor, and - just for the hell of it - some more for Le W*nk and Corncob. These pics illustrate once more that phones make good...well, er, phones:

Next week we're at St Lucia and the route may well include a ferry ride. Superhacker has however promised a dog-friendly alternative for those who don't want to leave their canines behind. Please bring your Go Cards for the trip - i.e. either bring a Go Card or bring a dog.
