A jolly crowd gathered

just below Jolly's Lookout this Sunday - even though the wide views from B&W and Trudi Fruti's version of the Berghof were overhung by louring, swagging clouds and interrupted periodically by scudding showers and mist.

Enough of purple prose!  Our route led us up the hill, where the walkers took in the views again while the runners headed off towards Boombana (not all of them made it that far.)

Taking the plunge: hashers about to follow the excavator into ruins of the former underground tank....

The meal featured some brilliant coleslaw, courtesy of Charcoal.  We really must revive the  Hash cookbook tradition this year!

Next weekend will see some of us away at the Tenterfield beer fest.  We hope to make it back for Shockjock and Co's run, but will we be in any fit state?

House Mountain perambulation

One of our younger members caused his mother some consternation by taking off with the runners - and in fact he did run much of the route with them!  Well done!  Meanwhile one of our elderly canine members caused consternation by sitting down half-way through the walk and refusing to move - until dog-whisperer Hugandkiss had a word.  Here are the two miscreants:

Five checks and one check-back kept the troops amused on the circuit, and the walkers had a reminder that track markings are on the right hand side of the trail....

A serious discussion of some legal issues:

Welcome to another Japanese visitor:

Hashers with attitude:

Leave Pass is on leave skiing in Japan at the moment, and Mile High and Hungandkiss are heading off there for the same purpose this week.  A number of us will be in Tenterfield for the German beer fest at the beginning of March, and the 2013 Girls' Weekend Away is in mid-March.

So there's plenty happening in the next little while, apart from the Sunday run and the Wednesday one....

When: Sunday 24th February, 5 pm
Where: B&W and Trudi Fruti's Jolly's Lookout lookout

Uncouth mount Mount Coot-tha II

Every man and his dog (and his bike too) was on the slopes of Mt. Coot-tha this last Sunday.  So we had to start with some creative parking - fitting 5 cars into the spaces reserved for 3.  The bush was green after rain, the tracks were clear, and the weather was beautiful - no wonder everyone was out and about!

We last approached these slopes from the northerly direction.  This time it was from the west, where there's a fine network of tracks. Thanks to our hares for a very pleasant jaunt along a well-marked trail and for a tasty meal!

Hopalong noticed some interesting formations (find the UFO):

It was good to see Topless, B-Flat and Malpractice again.  The latter two are returning to the UK shortly, but seemed to be formulating plans for a Samford Hash run through Cambridge later this year.  Sounds interesting....

Flexing

Our fully flexible hares had not only to postpone their run for a week, but also to completely alter the route: the tracks through the Raven Street and Chermside Hills reserves were still closed. Luckily they did manage to find a hill or two amongst the surrounding streets....

It's never too late to celebrate Australia, so they served up the traditional menu on the Aussie flag tablecloth -

Starters: Vegemite semmidges
Mains: Meadpoys and termarder sauce; snegs and selid
Dessert: Lemming tins

We also rent the evening calm with our upraised voices as we tackled some patriotic anthems:

Then competitive spirits took part in an Aussie trivia quiz and some tricky thong tossing - congrats to Nipliquor on his throwing!

Next week we welcome back Malpractice and B-Flat.  It will be good to see them again, and we trust that he has been warming up his vocal cords for some of his memorable ditties.

Next run details
When: Sunday 10th February, 5 pm
Where: Corner Highwood Road and Dillon Road, The Gap (you might have to park along the road a bit)
Hares: Superhacker, Hopalong, Malpractice and B-Flat
