Old Queenslanders

Last Sunday we followed a trail around the Wilston area which highlighted early Queensland architecture and the now tranquil waterway around Newmarket.

Idle Vice and Upstanding provided a tasty meal for the appreciative hashers. Even Le W*nk had no complaints.

Haughty is still in South Africa. Hopefully he is keeping an eye out for uncovered manholes personholes. Meanwhile Culture has been partying late into the night. She did seem a bit seedy on Sunday. When the cat's away........

Photos were in short supply this week:

Wolf hats and tree warmers

Last Sunday there were two hash runs. Here are the reports:

Arana Hills
Six hashers courageously explored the rugged wilderness which used to be the walkway along Kedron Brook. It was amazing to see massive trees which had been uprooted and swept downstream earlier this year.

The Arana Leagues Club menu was impressive (lots tastier than Charleville RSL). Dress code there seemed pleasingly lax....but oddly hats are absolutely forbidden, except on Melbourne Cup day. Culture had sadly to remove her warm wolf hat after letting out a howl of disapproval.

Thanks to Saucy Sue and Snappy for the photos:

Let's take a short cut

Where are we?
Food, glorious food

Killarney
Things were a lot cooler in Killarney. However, eight hashers braved the conditions and traipsed into town and back. Whilst in town they checked out the brightly adorned trees and the precariously placed CWA hall.

Afterwards, they retreated to the camp kitchen for food, lots of drinks and the warmth of the wood fire.

Here are some photos from the run and previous days (thanks to James Bondage, Payback and Cashconverta):

Cedar Creek sunset

At this time of the year the sun sets pretty early over the hills that ring the Cedar Creek valley, and as it does the chill sets in. This didn't seem to quell the spirits of some 26 or so hardy souls who gathered this last Sunday for a sunset jog and stroll, though many stayed pretty well wrapped up. (And that included Floater and Scratchit, just returned from hiking in the Tasmanian snows!)

We were greeted at Andy Williams Park by some pesky feral invaders...seven of them in total - here's one:

A few shots from the chilly walk and run:

Given the outside temperatures, it was pretty pleasant to be indoors (with a fire blazing) for the on, on....

Next run/walk details

When: Sunday 17th July at 4 pm

Where: The majority of hashers are going to Killarney on a Christmas-in-July Hash weekend away - so for them the walk and run will be in that warm, warm place. Take care to stay hydrated, and watch out for heatstroke, folks! The stayathomes will meet at the Arana Leagues Club for an impromptu walk and run, drinks and a club meal.

Hares: At Killarney - as arranged. At Arana Hills - M. Promptu.

(Advance notice - the run/walk on the 24th July will be in Wilston, from Idle Vice and Upstanding's mansion.)

Winter favourites

Another inner city gathering last Sunday - McCook Park, Newmarket. Back in 1949 the council acquired five acres of land adjacent to a tannery and named it McCook Park. The McCooks were a local family who had resided in the area for nearly fifty years.

James Bondage had marked an interesting trail through residential areas showcasing magnificent Queenslanders, including light industrial areas containing interesting small businesses.

Potluck featured some tasty dishes including a Winter favourite - soup. We do have some wonderful cooks in the group.

Next Sunday we are leaving the city and venturing into the countryside. Haughty and Culture are our hares and caterers.

Some news from Floater and Scratchit. They didn't find Brisbane cold enough, so off they went to Cradle Mountain. Below are some of their photos and shots from last Sunday:
