The path to Bellbird Grove

The route from Upper Kedron to Bellbird Grove was looking very tidy, very green and very lush this last Sunday. Among the recent plantings Cash Converta noted this shrub, which was showing off some striking Christmas colours:

And this is a reminder that we are hurtling toward the end of the year, and are well into the silly season. The Red Dress Run is coming up on 29th November, Christmas on Main Street on 4th December, and our Hash Christmas Party on the 10th! Woo-hoo!

Leave Pass set a gentle route along the creek and around a bushy circuit through the National Park. The runners added the gold mine circuit as well. We then headed back to the Upper Kedron playground to replenish our precious bodily fluids and feast on pizza. Many thanks to our hare!

Floater showed off the National Emergency medal she'd been awarded for her work with a Disaster Relief Australia team, helping people during the 2019/20 bushfire event. What an honour! Congratulations!

"Let them eat cake"

Two of our favourite members tied the knot this weekend. Here they are, looking stunning (well, she is anyway - and he's scrubbed up pretty well too) as they walk down the grassy aisle:

And here they are making their vows:

There'll surely be a lot more pics to follow! An unexpected bonus for the Hash was that the newly weds donated the top tier of their wedding cake for the hungry hordes to devour on Sunday. Doesn't it look stunning too?

This old blogger wasn't at the run, so here are some extracts from reports by various members:

Banger: "[Hardcore] took us on an almost flat run (map attached)...all very enjoyable, with a great refreshing sea breeze. We did just over 7k but we could easily have done 10k. Leave Pass actually told a joke that was funny...LOL. Great food and thanks to the newly weds for the lovely cake."

Idle Vice: "It was a beautiful walk; initially along the foreshore [where] we passed ornate Victorian villas and waterfront picnic spots....a gourmet dinner. Dessert was a beautiful treat!"

Make an Offer: "We gathered on the cliff, went down the steps and walked along the seafront, with choppy waves lapping over and splashing the pathway. We passed over to 2nd Avenue and admired the beautiful architecture and an amazing Porche parked in a driveway....We made it to the lake in the town centre and then headed back to the...shore where the sun was setting. The breezes were amazing....[A feast] of pasta, salad and French sticks was shared. Then a beautiful top tier of...wedding cake appeared...decorated with fresh flowers....Some of us ladies didn't hesitate in sharing a flower each....A glorious relaxing end to the day [as we] sat in our circle [being] filmed by passing...people."

Many thanks to Bigtop and Hardcore for what was obviously a memorable run, walk and meal!

Here are some of Snappy and Make an Offer's shots of members of the group on the cliff top, and on the walk:

It's sad to hear that Shaggy and Cadbury are going to be leaving us. Their house is on the market, and they've already bought in Hervey Bay - which, come to think of it, is not too far for a Hash weekend away....

A reminder: the 2021 Red Dress Run is now just a couple of weeks away. Here's another copy of the flyer:

Off-leashed

Sadly, in the last three weeks we have lost two of our much-loved canine members - Leave Pass' long-term companion Heimie, and now Escargot's faithful walking and hashing companion, Peggy. RIP. They are both sadly missed. And we offer our condolences to the bereaved. Here's a reminder of happier times - with Heimie, George, and Peggy celebrating the late Darcy's 14th birthday, back in 2017:

Six of our members were away on the Gold Coast this last weekend. They have sent these pics of their breakaway hash excursion from Labrador to Runaway Bay (and, we assume, back again):

And here's a dramatic shot of some of the weather they've been enjoying:

The bulk of us took on a trail which included a section of the old Camp Mountain rail route, which winds gently through some typical Camp Mountain bush. From this a short and somewhat overgrown route took us to one of the many Camp Mountain "gold mines" (the term seems wrong, given the fact that so little gold was ever found - let's just call them "futile holes in the ground"). There'd been some more rock falls since a few of us first found the site while on a bike ride in 2013 (don't we look young?):

The risks didn't deter a number of the walkers from exploring the depths of the hole, and disturbing the resident bat. Here are a few shots from the walk, and one of some runners:

We made our way back to Cassimaty Park in Ferny Grove for a meal of curry and crumble, the odd drink or two, and the odd joke or two as well:

Snappy dressed to match the tablecloth:

Sunday also saw Hardcore take on the Bridge to Brisbane and achieve an excellent time:

This year the course returned to a route beginning on the southern end of the Gateway Bridge - which means you begin with a 1.1 km hillclimb. Well run, Hardcore!

Samford usually makes a good showing at the Red Dress Run - no more so than in 2017, when Mile High took out the award for the best-dressed male!

You'll find reminders of some past runs here and here and here. And for the newbies - no, there is a walkers' route as well as a runners' one....

This year the Red Dress Run returns to a Monday evening - the 29th November - and doesn't clash with our Christmas party. It would be great to have a good Samford turnout for an event which is always a lot of fun....Here's a copy of this year's flyer:

We're at the seaside again this next week!
