The Tinkerbell Effect

As we know from Peter Pan, "Every time you say you don't believe in fairies, a fairy dies." None of us saw a fairy in the Kumbartcho fairy garden on Sunday, so let's hope they're not extinct. And shame on all those who say they don't believe in fairies!

The "Tinkerbell Effect" is about things that only exist because people believe in them (like the value of Bitcoin). There's no need to invoke it to explain why we like Shockjock's beer. We're remarkably fortunate to have a top brewer in the Hash, and even non-beer drinkers applauded the Farmhouse Ale he brought along on Sunday. Perhaps its 6% alcohol content had something to do with this. And given enough of it, anyone might start seeing fairies....

Payback had set a trail that took both runners and walkers along the South Pine riverside, past some very popular swimming holes, over a couple of bridges, and through Kumbartcho Sanctuary. It was a very pleasant and relaxed trail. Rice, savoury mince, salad and a vege option followed. Many thanks to Payback and Footsie for the trail and tasty meal!

Next weekend a large contingent will be heading off to the Sunshine Coast for a Hash camping weekend - should be fun! Since both Beermeisters and Winos will be going away, the Stayathomes will have a BYO Drinks and Eats event (shades of what we had to do during Covid!)

Next run/walk details

When: Sunday 26th February, 5 pm

Where: For the campers - in the Lake Cootharaba area. For the Stayathomes - John Scott Park, Samford Village

Hares: M. Promptu. For the Stayathomes, please BYO drinks and eats (you may share if you like)

Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego...and us

Sunday was the hottest day of the year - in fact, the hottest day in Brisbane for a couple of years. What a silly idea to go for a walk or a run in something like a fiery furnace! Yet there were quite a few of us who turned up in order to do just that....

Our hares had taken account of the conditions and set some shortish trails, mostly in the shade, and through some quite pretty country in the middle of suburbia. It was good to know that although we were in the bush (sort of) we were never very far from access for an ambulance and treatment for heat stroke. And it was good to get back to replenish our precious bodily fluids, and enjoy a bit of cooling curry and rice.

Here are some brave (or foolish) souls gathering in the heat:

A couple of Snappy's shots from the walk:

Back in the shade, beside the baking cricket field:

Cash Converta's sunset shot. Aaaahh:

During the week Haughty attended a Dayboro Lions meeting, where a most impressive award was handed over for our performance in this year's Dayboro Beer Mile. It's one of the best-looking trophies we've ever seen (apart from the ones produced by Dumbell, of course!) We have a year to keep working on our drinking and running skills, guys - we have a reputation to keep up!

When: Sunday 19th February, 5 pm

Where: Sargent Reserve, end Bunya Crossing Road, Eatons Hill. A map!

We strongly suggest you bring chairs!

A farewell, a birthday...and blood-drinking

We've had lots of great meals at the Little Nyonya Kitchen at the Ferny Grove Sports Club, and in the past it proved a good resource for helping get around some Covid restrictions as well. Last Sunday was their last night before they moved on to Geebung, and there certainly were lots of us who took the opportunity for a final Malaysian feast at the venue. It was a sad occasion in that way...but it was also a happy occasion in that Cadbury and Shaggy came down from the sticks and paid us a visit to help celebrate her Big Birthday.

Here are some of us gathering in the carpark before setting out on a couple of trails set by Leave Pass (many thanks to him):

Here we are back at the club for drinks and a great meal:

A Big Birthday celebration, with a conflagration that Culture could warm her hands at. WARNING: An explicit image!

Thanks to Snappy and Saucy Sous for the pics!

Meanwhile, in St Ives in Cambridgeshire, Superhacker has not been the only one to notice some mysterious chalk markings which appeared on the path up to the wheatfields and elsewhere:

Here, from the local Facebook page, is an explanation of what these are all about:

Superhacker is keen to join this bloodthirsty bunch....
