A bang, not a whimper....

2016 ended up with a bang, not a whimper, as a goodly crowd turned up for the last run of the year. Potluck produced an absolutely wonderful spread out of assorted Christmas leftovers! Here are 2 versions of the group photo - try to work out who took each of them:

A Christmas cracker of a run

The dogwalkers and landlubbers went one way while the rest of us leapt aboard a CityCat for a quick trip across the river. From the West End terminal we wended on a scenic route through Highgate Hill and back to the campus (where we met up - coincidentally - with old friend LFC.)

A sudden afternoon storm had passed by the time we set off (which is not what happened on a previous occasion in the same area.) But it did leave Superhacker very little time to set the run - and congratulations to her for putting down as much chalk and flour as she did! We mustered at a familiar spot between the tennis courts for some great chili and accompaniments. Many thanks to Superhacker for the run/walk and meal!

This week we also have to mention a 20th wedding anniversary. Congratulations to Miss Demeanour and Shockjock!

It's that time of year again:

Q: What did the shy pebble say?
A: I wish I were a little boulder.

Q: What's another name for Santa's little helpers?
A: Subordinate clauses.

Q: What do you get if you eat Christmas decorations?
A: Tinsilitis.

Q: Who was the woman who fell off a cliff after the Christmas party?
A: Eileen Dover.

Q: Why do anarchists only drink herbal tea?
A: Because all property is theft.

Q: Why can't you go fishing with a bearded man?
A: Because you really need a fishing rod.

The four stages of life for males:
1. You believe in Santa Claus
2. You don't believe in Santa Claus
3. You become Santa Claus
4. You look like Santa Claus.

Since next Sunday is Christmas Day we agreed in the circle to defer our next run till Tuesday 27th - it's a public holiday and a good time to use up leftovers. So expect some green ham and turkey, plus some soggy trifle....

When: Tuesday 27th December, 5 pm - a Christmas Recovery Run
Where: Wahminda Park (a map!)
Hares: Haughty will make an attempt to set a run; Potluck will cater (please bring some leftovers to share)

Go the Reds!

It's a busy time of year, but some 14 of us were able to frock up for the annual Brisbane Red Dress Run on Monday evening. As usual we scrubbed up very well in some snazzy little numbers! Here are a few shots from the start at the Plough Inn. One even shows Mile High enjoying the attentions of his private make up artist....

The evening before we had gathered for a M. Promptu/Potluck run from our home ground at John Scott Park. Potluck - as is his/her wont - provided a sumptuous feast. The occasion was also marked by a traditional naming ceremony for someone who has joined us for a number of outings recently - welcome Lielow! We hope you'll be enjoying many more down, downs with us... and that they won't all be as blurry!

It's back to the Groves of Academe (i.e. the UQ campus) next Sunday for the last run before Christmas. But remember your GoCards! Who knows - a ferry trip may well be in the offing! And Superhacker asks that you please bring a chair as well. OK?  Got it? - a GoCard and a chair!

(Superhacker also promises an alternative "dog friendly route for furry friends and landlubbers.")

Next run details
When: Sunday 18th December, 5 pm
Where: UQ City Cat terminal (a little upstream from our usual meeting place at the UQ tennis courts). A map!
Hares: Superhacker (and Hopalong?)

Arabian Night and Mitchelton Meander

Trampling all over cultural sensitivities and canons of good taste (surprise, surprise) Samford hashers proved eager to show off their take on a "Lawrence of Arabia" theme at the 2016 Hash Christmas party. What can we say except many thanks to our Arabian hosts Mile High and Hugandkiss? Their renovations have been a great success and made for a terrific Hash venue!

Here are at least some of those who turned up to recline on the Seven Pillows of Wisdom, take part in the Arab Revolt and tell the tales of 1001 Arabian Nights...including a couple of Sheherazades and a Jeannie.

Sunday saw us exploring some new country on the high side of Mitchelton, courtesy of B&W and Trudy Frudi. The question that the walkers had was - how did they manage to spread flour underneath parked cars without getting themselves covered in grease??? Thanks to our hares!

Don't forget the Red Dress Run on the 12th...and remember that the price of registrations for Interhash 2018 in Fiji goes up after the end of December.
