...and moaning about it afterwards...

Payback's email invited us to join Floater and Scratchit for an hour of climbing steep hills and moaning about it afterwards....In fact there was no moaning that I heard and the hares were actually applauded for their run/walk. Luckily it included some steep descents as well as ascents - or we wouldn't have ended up back at Ironbark Gully for the on, on. There were 28 of us there - so Payback's dire predictions can't have put too many off....

We'll be looking forward to some serious moaning, groaning and rattling of chains this coming Sunday. It's our annual Halloween event, when we terrify the children by coming without our makeup and revealing ourselves as we really are....

If you have any friends, dig them up and bring them along:

"Mummy, can I go and play with Grandma?"

"No, dear. You've dug her up three times this week already."

The first run of summer

A group of 25 of us (if you count the dogs) met to celebrate the first of the 5 pm runs. And by good fortune there were still 25 who came straggling in as darkness fell....It was the first water crossing that probably did the most to spread out the field, but the Shggrs and Leave Pass appear to have wilfully made up their own trail. The hare was definitely not at fault. Congratulations to Chinwag, Fleabite and their noname brother for running most of the way....

After hearing Leave Pass' joke we'll all be very careful about how we hold our towels in future! And here's another little Irish one:

There's a new priest at St. Brigid's, and Patrick comes up to him after his second Sunday in the parish.

"I want to thank you, Father," he says. "You've only been in the parish a short time, but you've been very good for me."

"Thank you," says the new priest. "In what way have I helped?"

"Well, when I came to church last Sunday I had lost my hat, and so I'd stolen O'Brien's one. Then you preached on 'Thou shalt not steal' and that made me feel very bad. So this Sunday I gave him his hat back, and now I feel much better."

"I'm very glad to hear that," says the priest. "That was a good thing that you did."

"But there's more," says Patrick. "This Sunday when I came to church you preached on 'Thou shalt not commit adultery'. And then I remembered where I'd left my hat!"

It's back to Ironbark Gully for the first time in a while this coming Sunday. Floater and Scratchit are our hares, so we can look forward to a highly artistic run. Here's a link to her latest project - a celebration of 150 years of Queensland. Go on - vote for it!

Summertime...and the livin' is easy*

- and the runs move to 5 o'clock! Don't forget - from this Sunday (18th October) we start at 5! (* Click here for the music)

Superhack and Hopalong have produced some memorable Birthday Bush Bashes in the past, and this last Sunday's one was no exception. They led us up and down the fire trails around Jolly's Lookout and had us scrambling up a creekbed through the rainforest. There was plenty of mud and many, many lawyer vines! And all this was followed by a surfeit of wonderful nosh and the views from their deck.... Many thanks to the hares, and Happy Birthday!

Here's a little birthday story:

A lady in a retirement home bursts into the room of an elderly gentleman. She is wearing nothing but a skimpy nightie.

"It's my birthday!" she says. "Would you like to join me for some super sex?"

The old gentleman seems a bit startled. "I'd love some soup, thanks," he says.

South Pine saunter

Whizbanger, Hot to Trot, Slammer and Upfront combined to lay on a scenic run which took in the shady banks of the South Pine, the old Yugar rail tunnel, and some stiffish climbs. They followed this up with a stunning meal comprising no less than four courses and including organic beef burgers, sweet corn, stuffed eggs and ice cream! Congratulations and thanks to the hares.

Now back to the main event...

In two week's time we'll be shifting to a 5 pm start time. As if to give us some practice, Shockjock went off to change while we waited...and waited...and waited. What was it? A problem with his mascara? Or a pesky curl that he just couldn't get to sit right? He'd earned his down down and he took it like a man....

Plans are well advanced for the Girl's Own Card-Maxing weekend in Melbourne on the 13th - 15th November (there are 12 confirmed shopaholics signed up so far). And Haughty and Culture's new deck will be christened at the Hash Christmas party at the end of November.

Next week will be Superhack's birthday run. Be sure to come in your birthday suit....

Culture took this shot of a monks' hash in Kyoto last week:
