You went where??

The majority of the walkers cut off half the trail this Sunday - inadvertently, they said. It meant that they were already pretty merry by the time the runners got home, and it was a bit hard to work out exactly where they'd gone and what they'd done. But we can say that the runners had a pretty close-up view of the Mt. Coot-tha TV towers and some spectacular views of the city in the late-afternoon sunlight. Chili and frozen desserts on the deck followed. It was great to see Miss Fit and young Bryn again. Many thanks to our hares!

Tuesday evening saw a number of us gathering at the German Club for some intensive beer tasting and a substantial meal. Thanks to Charcoal and Strine for organising this event again.

And Jamesbondage and Redbreast are well on their way to foreign climes, as this shot of them scraping under the Gateway bridge indicates....

The bonnie banks of Pine

It's been some months since we last went roamin' in the gloamin' along the bonnie banks of the Pine River at Yuraba - and this Sunday's run/walk was a pleasant as ever. We'd thought that overnight rain might have washed out the trail markings, but our hare and her assistant had used plenty of flour and it survived. Two hashers and a dog went missing in action but made it back (just) before the food ran out. Thanks to Footsie and her assistant Payback!

A few hashers enjoyed a field trip to the musical Ladies in Black on Saturday, and a number will be undertaking an intensive study tour to the German Club on Tuesday. You'll find a reminder of a 2011 excursion to this venue here.

We must be ruddy bonkers!

The police had issued warnings against outdoor activities, and the temperature in Dayboro had cooled only marginally from its 44.5 degree peak - but a fair-sized group of us still gathered to demonstrate just how bonkers we are. For the record, here are a couple of shots of the lunatics on the asylum veranda (thanks to Topless for the photography, and note the heater):

Our hares set quite a suitable run/walk for the conditions - an out-and-back so you could turn around as your organs started to fail. Not much in the way of hills, either....Congratulations to them for marking a trail and cooking a meal on a record breaking day, and many, many thanks!

We bade farewell to Redbreast and Jamesbondage - off on a massive trip to multiple continents. Have a wonderful time!

Clear Mountain switchbacks

We've explored the switchbacks of Clear Mountain a number of times in the past and it was good to get back there again. It's been hot - and it was hot once more on Sunday - so the shade of the trees, and the breezes we caught on the ridges, were both very welcome. Gastrick was able to make it for the first time this year, and B&W and Trudi Frudi have now completed their renovations and were able to join us as well. They helped push our numbers towards 30 - a goodly crowd considering the temperature....

We headed back to the hares' to replenish our precious bodily fluids and enjoy some traditional spag bog. Many thanks to Charcoal and Strine!

Unfortunately there's no relief from the heat wave in sight, and next Sunday will still be hot - but the long shadows and cool breezes you can expect as the sun sets scenically over Dayboro are not to be missed.....
