Wet and wild

34 of us gathered at Miss Demeanour and Shockjock's on a warmish day and washed off the sweat from a very pleasant run/walk in their brand-new pool. And of the 34 - as befits a family Hash - 5 were boomers over 70, 5 were whatever-they-ares under 12, and the rest were every type of Gen in between!

We have to assure those who chose not to follow it that the trail was really well-marked, with surprisingly few ups and downs after the first little bit. The runners added a couple of loops, one of which included an interesting visit to the Old Bunya School site. (Apparently the school opened in 1875 with an enrolment of 58 boys and 26 girls, but the average attendance was 21 boys and 9 girls. Hmmm.)

After cooling off, we enjoyed a wonderful spread including a range of salads, pasta and two types of chicken! Yum...and many, many thanks to our hares.

Hash jeweler Jamesbondage had been hard at work, and Snappy was presented with her name necklace. She lived up to her name once again, and here are some of her poolside shots:

Who remembers the days when Nipliquor used to come hashing in his stroller? Here he is with his siblings on Fathers' Day 2010:

And here he is now, towering over his mum:

Le W*nk was apparently disappointed at not being able to christen the new pool in person. However he provided a specimen, and Payback did the honours....

Finally, Snappy has requested that we wear our name necklaces so she can get to know our hash names. It's a great idea - we've got into the habit of only wearing them when associating with other Hashes at Interhash, or on the Red Dress Run, but wearing them regularly would be beneficial for visitors and newcomers alike. Let's try and remember, eh?

Cupid's (chalk) arrows - a pearl of a run

We'd forgotten (until we were reminded afterwards) that this month marks the 30th (Pearl) Anniversary of Samford Hash! Our first run was in February 1991... and though we've enjoyed celebrating our 21st Birthday and our Silver Anniversary over the last decade, this particular significant date sort of snuck up on us. Well - happy 30th, everyone!

This Sunday's run was also held on Valentine's Day, although once again we didn't make a great deal of it. Perhaps we are just so glad and relieved that we are able to meet and enjoy one another's company every week that for us every Sunday is a momentous celebration! No need to remind ourselves that things are not like this in other parts of the world....

Our Valentine hares set a trail that held many happy memories for them - and for some others who could recall a time when you didn't need several millions of dollars to buy a house in the area. The route was well-marked, flat and scenic, with only the occasional patch of trackless jungle to hack through:

The runners were joined this week by the Hound of the Baskervilles, aka Zoe. Here they are negotiating the turnaround at the end of their out and back trail. It was hard to do without a dog:

And back at the park we enjoyed some scrumptious nosh and replenished our precious bodily fluids in a wide and safe circle. Many, many thanks to Upstanding and Idle Vice!

Next week we'll be pool-warming Shockjock and Miss Demeanour's new pool, so bring something to swim in (your birthday suit, perhaps?)!

Hard as ever

The runners found it as hard as ever to keep pace with Hardcore on our trail from Brighton to Sandgate and back. What a good runner she is! The walkers took in the sea air along the same sort of route. A fine afternoon had brought out a lot of other people for a seaside stroll, and dodging kids on bikes was a constant hazard. Here are some of those who gathered on the foreshore at the start:

And here are some of those who cooled off with a dip in the briny afterwards:

Walkers en route:

We then had a chance to check out Bigtop's new seaside cottage. She'd been very busy with landscaping - all her own work:

Payback had to appreciate the tactile qualities of the sculpture:

And here are some of the crew in the backyard, where we enjoyed some scrumptious nosh. Many, many thanks to our hares for a scenic and very enjoyable afternoon! And congratulations on the new home!

Many thanks also to Snappy for living up to her name and supplying many of the pics in this post!

Finally, here's a clipping from The Village Pump, showing Nipliquor out on the water:

Reno run

Almost 40 of us (including long-lost nomads Dollybird and Slasher) turned up to admire our hares' renovations on Sunday. The interior of their place had been transformed by a company called Finer Finishers, while the renovated front yard and boat shed were also looking very shmick.

It was a pleasant afternoon for a creekside excursion in the upper Kedron catchment, and the trail took in a renovated section of walkway as well - where we once had to scramble up a pile of boulders there's now a 4-lane bridge! However several pairs of eyes among the runners were not enough to prevent them losing their way after a very short distance. They took a 2 km bushland diversion before discovering the route again, but found themselves running it in reverse. A backward bunch, it seems....

Here are shots of some of those who enjoyed some really tasty curry and some good company on their return. Our hares Shaggy and Cadbury had had a really full-on weekend, sizzling sausages at Bunnings, and assisting at two SPADEwerx performances, as well as setting and hosting the run. Many, many thanks to them - what troupers they are!

And on trail - a sunset, some walkers, and some flying pigs....
