Gold! Gold! Gold!

There was plenty of gold on this Sunday's run and walk, but this is what it looked like:

Senna pendula was several billion times more common in the area than golden nuggets, and we marveled at the amount of effort that had gone into digging holes in the ground along the Golden Boulder circuit to prove that fact.

(Senna pendula was also, incidentally, several billion times more common than trail markings.)

Floater, who has a bit of a reputation as a botanical artist, paused here and there to make a record of the local flora, taking pictures of several varieties of lantana as well as of the Easter cassia. All very pretty....

Back at the Upper Kedron Park we enjoyed Leave Pass's healthy offerings of chicken and veges - many thanks!

We celebrated Miss Demeanour's significant birthday in the usual way:

And we held a naming ceremony for Boxer's long-time partner...who somehow or other never got round to being named during all her time in Malaysia. It's been great having them come along to our last several meets. So, welcome to Saucy - we hope to see you hashing with us for a long time to come!

Easter feasting

Easter is a time of traditional celebrations in far-flung places - which means that we often are a bit thin on the ground at home in Samford. This year saw Shockjock, Miss Demeanour, Superhacker and Co. taking part in a traditional smoking ceremony at Murphy's Creek:

Meanwhile in Japan, Mile High and Hugandkiss completed another pilgrimage, and were awarded doubly-endorsed tickets to both a Catholic and a Buddhist heaven:

And in Europe, Charcoal and Strine continued their historical pilgrimage up Etna (where Charcoal is pictured in a snow-dusted crater), and around the ruins, cave dwellings and restoration sites of Sicily and the southern tip of Italy.

Back in Samford on a showery Easter Sunday, both walkers and runners completed (almost) their M. Promptu circuits before the rain began again. Potluck, as usual, supplied a toothsome and plentiful feast. Thanks, all, for your contributions!

Home and dry:

Food, glorious food:

Sextet with voices raised in Hash Harmony:

RePining

Over the course of a year or two we tend to explore much of the South (and North) Pine rivers - starting from near their sources at Dayboro and Samford and going down towards their mouth near Redcliffe. This Sunday we did some more repining around a wide loop of water in Bald Hills.

Culture recalled going fishing once at Pine Rivers Park with a group of women. She was the only person to catch anything - a tilapia that had to be buried on the river bank, and a large mullet that proved to be absolutely inedible even after a number of treatments to try and disguise its taste.

The trail was flat, leafy and well-marked; and the weather was cool and pleasant. We returned to the park to replenish our precious bodily fluids and enjoy a feast of cold meat and salads. Many thanks, hares!

Cadbury showed off her scars from some recent encounters with a defib machine. Good to have you with us, and you're looking remarkably well!

Plans are in train for our attendance at the Opera at Jimbour in July. Payback is booking accommodation at the Bunyas and if you haven't yet booked your opera tickets then go online to do so.

Mile High and Hugandkiss are on pilgrimage in Japan. And our European pilgrims Charcoal and Strine have been going to church in Sicily:

This year's Easter pilgrimage for the stayathomes will be from John Scott Park.

"Land of my fathers"

"Land of my fathers," the Welsh sing (how many do they have? and and do they have no record of their mothers' origins?)..."Land of the mist and the wild...." (and land of snow too, as Charcoal and Strine are discovering.)

Welsh hills:

Snowdonia (there's a hint in the name)

All Welsh trains look like this:

Meanwhile, back in beautiful Oz, Payback and Cash Converta led the masses on a tour along the shining waters of the Pine.

The trail was flat, the weather and scenery were perfect, and a swarm of blood-thirsty mosquitoes turned up as well to enjoy the conditions and a free feed. We came across lots of kangaroos, including a few huge males whose body language seemed to say 'don't mess with me." Shockjock ran the whole trail!!! (he's a bit rusty.) And we said goodbye to Mile High and Hugandkiss who are off on their Japanese trek later this week.

Tinkerbell turned up for the first time in many moons, bearing a banner of somewhat dubious provenance. Where had he got it? Had he smuggled it out of Fiji under his kilt? What revenge will Hamersley take in T&T? We don't mind having some of the glory of Hamersley rubbing off on us, but I'm not sure about whatever this banner might have picked up under that kilt.
.

It seems that Shockjock, Miss Demeanour and Nipliquor are thinking of setting an electric scooter hash trail.

First winter wander

Shaggy has just landed in Minneapolis, where it's snowing. And Charcoal and Strine have been enjoying some picture-postcard spring weather in Essex and Shropshire:

And in Samford?

Well, we can argue about the date of winter till the solstices come home - but for Samford Hash there are only 2 seasons. There's a 4 pm season we call "winter", and a 5 pm season we call "summer". And the Samford Hash winter began this Sunday on a very pleasant sunny and temperate afternoon....

Walkers and runners both followed M. Promptu around familiar trails from John Scott Park, returning to enjoy a traditional lavish Potluck feast. Thanks to all for their contributions.

Leave Pass has proposed revising a winter tradition of taking part in a feast of operatic culture at Jimbour House as part of a weekend at the Bunyas. We first did this in 2007! Opera at Jimbour is on the 27th July this year. Please check your diaries and we'll discuss this further.
