Almost Christmas in almost July

Our annual Christmas in July weekend has slipped into August this year.  Look out, Sunshine Coast hinterland!  We're on our freezing way....

It was pretty freezing this last Sunday as well once the sun had dipped below the hills.  Our trail had taken us through newish country in Closeburn and included a couple of sharp turns that some twalkers missed completely.  How did you do in the competition to pick up the most ticks?

The other notable event this week was Payback's celebrity appearance in The Westerner local paper.  If by any chance you missed the interview, here it is!

Hash recipe for dealing with the cold:

Virgin territory

We covered virgin territory at Warner on Sunday. We were enchanted by the forest of grass trees and the friendly Alpaca. Our trail marking inspector, Ushagger, didn't complain about the markings, so Payback must have got it right.

At the on, on we inspected Hug n kisses' bruises which resulted from a chair being pulled out from under her. Anyway, that was her story but none of us believed it.

Next week our hares are Haughty and Culture fresh from Japan where they were turning Japanese.

We couldn't get through!

Someone must have heard that a bunch of undesirables were descending on Uppity Kedron, because the road to Leave Pass's place was blocked off. After much head scratching, the mob eventually found their way by following the scent of freshly purchased lasagna.

Leave Pass excelled himself this time by taking us to places we hadn't been before and having an abundance of food at the on,on. He even gave us a demonstration of his boxing prowess. What a super fat fit athlete he is.

Sorry, calf!

We knocked the fatted calf on the head this Sunday to welcome the Canberra branch of Samford Hash back into town. It was great to see Hot to Trot, Wizbanger, Slammit and Upfront again, and a goodly crowd* turned out to welcome them.

Charcoal and Strine (assisted by B & W) had set a typically flaaaat Clear Mountain run/walk which saw the runners and two groups of walkers all hoving into view to finish at the same time - well organised! A toothsome 3 course meal followed.

A down, down for two latecomers:

Baptism for some new shoes:

Finally - we held a naming ceremony for two no-names who have been coming (I mean attending) regularly for weeks. In future, they will be known as Mile High and Hugandkiss. Here they are:

Here's some sort of explanation for her name:

*BTW - there was a goodly crowd at the Wednesday mid-week run this last week as well - twelve runners and walkers in all! This must be a record....

"Three double pneumonias, please -

but none for Payback..." This past Wednesday was freezing and wet...way too cold and rainy for any sane person to set out for a mid-week run. But three of the idiots from Samford Hash did get themselves soaked on the trail before retiring for some temperance beverages at the public bar. Our GM was not among them (shame, shame) and this earned him a down, down at this Sunday's run. Shockjock was similarly honoured for persistent lateness....

Toss O'Coin (aka Flip) led a goodly crowd of walkers out through the Royal Estates for a circuit by way of the bowls club and the CSIRO creek crossing. The tosser for the runners set a trail which saw them wallowing in the mud and bat guano at the old Yugar rail tunnel. Pneumonia and lyssavirus, all the the one week! What fun!

As usual, Potluck provided a wonderful feast.  And Tweetie Pie and Souffle were awarded the carefully crafted necklaces (featuring their Hash names) which Jamesbondage, our Hash jeweller, had spent many long hours toiling over....

There's a big weekend coming up. Charcoal and Strine will be back from OS...and Hot to Trot, Wizbanger and the boys will be fleeing the horrors of Canberra for a few days of culture (The Samford production of The Importance of Being Earnest on Friday night), and recreation and fellowship (the Sunday run.) It will be great to see them all....

Next run details
When: Sunday 8th July, 4 pm
Where: Corner Clear Mt Rd and Buranda Rd, Clear Mountain
