Boat people

A big weekend, this - marked not only by our Oz Day celebrations, but by Le W*nk making it as far as the big Five-Oh. He's always been such a shy, reserved and retiring young man - perhaps now he's grown up he can relax and loosen up a bit?

The festivities were launched (literally) on Saturday afternoon when a number of us took to the pristine waters of the Brisbane River for a casual paddle downstream. No need to ask who fell in - or who helped him fall....

The partying continued on Saturday evening when still more of us gathered at the Eaton's Hill pub to surprise the lad once more and sing Happy Birthday again.

And then on Sunday Charcoal and Strine hosted our 2014 Australia Day run through the back blocks of Clear Mountain. The run/walk was followed by the Hash Olympics - featuring such traditional sports as thong-throwing (we're referring to footwear, of course), chucking the passionfruit, and vegemite map-making, as well as a head-scratching quiz.

For those wanting to come to Australia, a criminal record is not an advantage nowadays; a few years ago, it was compulsory....Should we have been allowed into the country? Some of us were not very good at answering the standard Immigration Test questions - even if we did know Donald Bradman's batting average! (What was it again?)

Here's the questionable group (thanks to Topless for the photography, and to Photoshop for the addition of two laggards - can you pick them?):

And here are a few keen contestants:

Many thanks to our true-blue hares, and to Payback for organising the fun and games!

(There'll be more pics to come in future posts, I'm sure.)

Grey carpet treatment

Mile High and Hug n Kiss went that extra mile in laying out the grey carpet along the South Pine River last Sunday. It was a bit ostentatious, but the hashers felt that they deserved such treatment.

There was some moaning from the runners about the trail marking. However, the flour and chalk were there, but the myopic runners forgot to bring their spectacles and white canes.

Thanks to the hares for a scenic run and a great meal.

Next Sunday is the Australia day run, so try and wear something patriotic. We'll be starting at 5pm on the dot to make time for the Oz Olympics afterwards.

Wimpy runners

After Payback spent hours in the hot sun laying the trail, the runners decided not to complete the run. Various excuses were given such as 'I did a 50km bike ride this morning', I put on three kilos during my Pacific Island cruise' and 'It might be too dangerous to run along the main road'. The heretics deserved a down down but the focus was on Payback who just happened to have a birthday the day before. For this, he was forced to down some amber fluid blended by Le Wank and to shower with the dregs.

Thanks to Culture for making the birthday cake.

A selection of starving dogs focused on Cashconverta's magnificent spread. Note the two headed beagle:

Hot smoked Hash

Well, it was a bit cooler than it had been on the record-breaking day before, but it was still rather warm this last Sunday as we gathered in Samford Village. And the smoke from the fire that had by then burnt out over 60% of Stradbroke Island was filling both the valley and our lungs. So runners and walkers alike wisely avoided excessive exertion and any steep inclines. We still ended up pretty darn hot, and replenishing our precious bodily fluids has never felt so good.

Selected hot dogs:

Selected hot bods:

During the circle we drank to Yshggr, on the second anniversary of her death. She was a feisty, funny, beautiful person, and a hasher through and through. We feel privileged and honoured to have hashed with her. And we miss her.
