The smallest Samford Hash member

celebrated his birthday at the smallest Samford Hash meet in history on Sunday. There were only eight of us - which meant there was a large helping of Nipper's birthday cake for everyone there. We had an enjoyable run/walk and a great joke-swapping session.

(Actually, if I remember right, Strine did once tell me of an occasion when the hare -Rick "Uriah" Heap - was the only person to turn up to his own run. But that was sometime in the Jurassic...it's pre-history)

One of our annual fixtures is coming up this next Sunday - Charcoal's famous Easter Egg run! Who'll best be able to follow his fiendishly cunning trail, find the eggs, and clog his or her arteries with chocolate?

Bikie gang

A quartet of Samford Hash members completed the 45 km Great Brisbane Bike ride on Sunday morning. Congratulations to them - especially to those who made it thereafter to the run and on, on:

It's hard to find a hill amongst the extensive plains surrounding Ironbark Gully, but the hares did manage to locate an incline or two. Winter is on its way, and the fire provided by Charcoal and Strine was very welcome:

Overheard on Sunday...
Jamesbondage (to Chinwag): "I'm injured! Do you think Redbreast should carry me?"
Redbreast: "I've been carrying you for over 40 years, dear...."

Perfect timing

by the hares this week....It had rained earlier in the day, and it bucketed down while we were under shelter during the on, on - but the trail markings had not been washed away, and we had no rain during the run.

In organising this Urass, Bigtop and Hardcore did a lot better than anyone else has over the last several weeks....

It was a well-marked run, with plenty of checks and plenty of flour. Nevertheless some runners did manage to get mislaid en route - what trail were they following?

Hardcore had some significant items of news:
1. She did a 5km run last weekend in 21 minutes and is planning a sub-45 minute Corporate Games run!
2. She's bought a house, and is looking for a dog to chew up the yard and bring on runs!

Here's a little story:

Two Hash runners lose the trail and find themselves passing a pub. One is running with a doberman and the other with a chihuahua.

"Let's go in for a drink," the first suggests.
"But this pub won't let dogs in."
"Watch me!" says the first. He puts on a pair of dark glasses - and when he's challenged by the bouncer says "This is my guide dog." It works!
So the second runner puts on some dark glasses and tries it as well: "This is my guide dog."
The bouncer is unimpressed: "You have a chihuahua as a guide dog?"
"What!" says the second runner, "They gave me a chihuahua???"

Start of the winter start times

We decided last week that our Sunday runs would move to 4 pm repeat 4 pm from next Sunday (14th March).

It's true that the equinox is not for another week after that. But the days are drawing in noticeably (the overcast rainy conditions haven't helped), and the last walkers on last Sunday's event could have done with some night vision equipment to help them home.

I predict that some will forget and turn up at 5 - a down, down for them!

A memorable run this last Sunday courtesy of Shockjock, Miss Demeanour and Chinwag. The carpark we started from - and quite a lot of the track - had been a metre under water a few days before. We definitely did not suffer from a deficit of mud....

There was no deficit of gourmet tucker at the on, on either. The meal featured homemade pretzels and kraut along with "Chardonnay and French herb" and "Spicy Italian" sausages. Tasty!

The hares share a pretzel:

Chinwag - awarded a down, down for deliberately sending walkers down a false trail!

The tour of Shockjock's new coldroom. The nagging question - is it big enough for his beer?

Sunday roast - wow!

Our virgin hares this Sunday laid on a grand tour de Kedron Brook and followed it up with a magnificent roast dinner. This will be a hard act for anyone to follow....Congratulations and thanks to them!

A number of regulars were away (down the coast, down in Byron Bay and across the Tasman) but 21 humans and 2 dogs turned up to welcome Kamikaze from Perth - and to honour his new shoes. Some Samford Hash members even had to be evacuated from Coochimudlo on Saturday night in order to make it to the run.

Plans are well in train for the Stanthorpe Stagger in April. Here's a summit shot proving that Culture did once make it to the top of Mt Norman - and didn't break her bottle of red wine either.

And for those who like a touch of the grisly, here's a shot of Haughty's elbow after The Fall last weekend:
