Lapping the lapping lake

Payback and Cash Converta took us on another scenic circuit of the Warner Lake this Sunday, with plenty of opportunities for birdwatching - and souped-up car watching - along the way. This area must be home to a large number of car enthusiasts as well as a large number of spoonbills, black ducks and swans. Our hares followed up a relaxed and easy excursion with cottage pie, a great salad and cupcakes. Many thanks to them both!

Ladies first? In general, perhaps - but don't stand between a male Samford hasher and the grub!

Here are a few follow-up pics from last week's weekend away - thanks to Payback:

More water:

The Gorge campsite:

After Redbreast and Jamesbondage headed home with caravan problems, someone had to finish up the pumpkin soup they'd left behind:

Bottle tree in Clifton - don't know which of our mob was responsible for the graffiti:

Clifton sunset:

A number of members are heading OS over the next few weeks - Eweshggr, Leave Pass, Make an Offer and Banger to the UK, and Floater and Scratchit to Portugal. All the best on your travels, and please - there's no need to bring us back large bottles of port...small  ones will do....

Tinkerbell is setting his inaugural Samford Hash run next Sunday. Those of us who have experienced his Red Dress runs are really looking forward to it!

Next run details
When: Sunday 4th June, 4 pm
Where: Carpark outside First Choice Liquor, Great Western Shopping Centre, Keperra. A map!
Hares: Tinkerbell will set the run. Culture will cater.

Home and away 3

Some 24 hashers had signed up to go camping in the Gorge...and the rain on Friday didn't prevent them. Here are a few scenic shots illustrating some of what they experienced on this Hash weekend away. Gourmet camp oven cooking was only one of the treats.

The stay-at-homes took on some really new tracks - only just opened - within the Lake Samsonvale surrounds. The walkers avoided the hardest bits of the trail by simply ignoring trail markings and going straight ahead where they should have turned left. It was then of course too late to do anything other than return along some rather easy gradients. Gentlemanly Tinkerbell had set off in search of them and unsurprisingly found so sign of them along the tough sections.

Some beaut curry with Indian breads and sambals (plus apple and blueberry crumble!) followed at the hares' hilltop manor. Many thanks, hares!

Next run details
When: Sunday 28th May, 4 pm
Where: Corner Pallas Pde and Ballyalla Cres, Warner. A map!

Mother Superior 2017

Each year at this time Samford Hash honours mothers - Earth Mothers, Mother Earth, hot mamas, loving mothers, caring mothers and nurturing mothers (we draw the line at yummy mummies.) As we always say, "mothering" is not confined to biological mothers and many Mother Superiors have no biological offspring. Think Mother Teresa....

Cadbury was this year's worthy recipient of our Mother Superior Award and the frills, furbelows and formidable foundation-wear that go with it. Congratulations! Here she is, being invested with the regalia by last year's winner, Hugandkiss, and then showing off some of her moves:

Shaggy looks a little bemused:

She: I thought you'd like a wife with long blonde hair.
He: I don't want one with Donald Trump's hair!

We also need to record that Escargot - our Mother Superior from 2 years back - became a proud grandmother a week or so ago - congrats to her too!

The weather was distinctly dampish, but the rain fortunately held off. The walkers had the choice of an adventurous but scenic excursion along the creek or a more sedate stroll along the road (where the greatest risk was that of being accosted by goatherd.) The runners added a hillclimb to the creek leg - after all, what's a Samford run without a hill or two? - and no-one fell in the water.

Next weekend a bunch of Samford hashers will be away, camping it up and climbing a peak or two around the Scenic Rim. Look for their pics in further posts. The stay-at-homes are heading towards Dayboro.

Finally - blame Leave Pass for the suggestion - here's a little something from the Mothers of Invention. This dates from 1966:

Next run details
When: Sunday 21st May, 4 pm (for the stay-at-homes; various for the campers)
Where: For the campers - as arranged; for the stay-at-homes - new carpark at the end of the Postman's Track, Samsonvale. Go to the end of the bitumen on the Postman's Track, then continue along the gravel track past the "Road Ends" sign (is that clear?)  Proceed to a new carpark on the shores of Lake Samsonvale. Bald Hills? Bald-erdash!

You might have thought that a suburb dubbing itself "Bald Hills" would feature an incline or two. If so, Sunday's run would have changed your mind. "Bald Hills" appeared to be as much of a misnomer as "Bracken Ridge" seemed to be a few weeks ago. (Not that our mob minded a very flat run for a change.)

Hare Shockjock set us a winding circuit, using plenty of flour and chalk. This was good, because the terrain itself offered no clues as to which way we were facing. One person - isn't there always one? - ignored the directions the arrows were pointing in and ran at least some of the course in reverse. She had a map, you see....

A delicious chicken and chorizo hotpot followed, and then Leave Pass shared with us some of Prince Philip (Knight of Australia)'s wit and wisdom. Many thanks hares!

Some well-fed ducks:

A few hashers in the dark - and the only real landmark in the area:

Some hashers in the light:

A lack of glasses didn't bother Superhacker:

Wanderers return: it was good to see Jamesbondage and Redbreast again:

And Tinkerbell had been MIA for a few weeks too:

A couple of Hash femmes celebrated their birthdays with a cake and a lambrusco down, down:

Next week will see us bestowing our annual Mother Superior award as we celebrate our Hot Mamas! You can check out some previous award ceremonies here and here and here and here and here, oh, and here.

Next run details
When: Sunday 14th May, 4 pm
Where: Andy Williams Park, Cedar Creek Road (about 7.36 km from the turnoff.) A map!

Up...then up again...then, guess what?...up!

Ears popped on Floater and Scratchit's run this week as we experienced some extreme changes in elevation. Congratulations to them for finding us a route that we've never been on before. And congratulations also to Nipliquor - the only runner who didn't break into a walk, even on the steepest sections!

Due (presumably) to a right-wing conspiracy, the lights on the shelter in John Scott Park did not turn on - which made it hard to read the song sheets as we raised our voices in our traditional rendition of "The Red Flag". It's doubtful that these words are heard anywhere in Samford except on our May Day runs....And in keeping with the Red theme, Miss Demeanour and Co. turned up in the spanking new red car she got for her birthday.

Birthday girl and friend:

Culture - look! no training wheels!

Our next run features duck feeding - remember to bring some food for our feathery friends!

Next run details
When: Sunday 7th May, 4 pm
Where: Harold Kielly Park, 508 Bracken Ridge Road, Bald Hills. A map!
