The missing ridge

If a place has "ridge" as part of its name (think Lightning Ridge, Oak Ridge, Hacksaw Ridge...) you'd expect a bit of variety in elevation, right? Bracken Ridge seems to be an exception - and hashers this last Sunday were very pleased with a flaaaat run. In fact the only incline of note was the ramp up to the pedestrian highway crossing.

The country was moist and green after a little bit of rain and the water birds (including some magpie geese) were enjoying the damp - at least until certain hash dogs came along....

Traditional fare - pies, peas and mash - greeted us when we returned. Tweety Pie insisted on her grandad the hare receiving a down, down for unspecified reasons, while Mile High and Hugandkiss received another for abandoning their baby at the pub after the Wednesday run (good grief!) Many thanks to Eweshggr and his assistants for a really well-marked run and a tasty meal!

IMPORTANT REMINDER: This coming Sunday we move to a 4 pm start time (Leave Pass, Footsie, and sundry others - please take note!)

Plus - please bring chairs!

Next run details
When: Sunday 2nd April, 4 pm - repeat, 4 pm!
Where: Bus parking area, Walkabout Creek, Mt Nebo Road, The Gap. Look out for the hare's van. A map!

Rainy day in the village

Samford Hash members are undeterred by heatwaves, hail, hurricanes or sleet...so a little bit of water falling from the sky didn't prevent a good turnout this last Sunday. Luckily this was a M. Promptu run, so there weren't any trail markings to be washed out by the rain.

Rumour has it that the runners were so blinded by water in their eyes that they ventured past some "Private Property" and "No entry without authorization" signs. The walkers took a more sedate route around the soccer club circuit. Potluck (as usual) provided a magnificent and sumptuous feast, with no double-ups at all (remember that very healthy occasion on which everyone brought salad?)

No pictures from this week, but here's a shot from a couple of weeks back, showing Hopalong and Pink Lady overtaking Bigtop at a run. Hopalong has become something of a school cross country star, and if Pink Lady takes after her mother she'll be one as well.

Reminder: We'll be moving to a 4 pm start from the 2nd April!

Next run details
When; Sunday 26th March, 5 pm
Where: Eweshggr's Bracken Ridge Base Camp

Moon in the water

After a pleasant rural stroll past the paddocks of the Day's Road area we adjourned to the luxury of Mile High and Hugandkiss' poolside retreat. A full moon rose over the shoulder of the hill and was reflected in the water.

Zen poet Dogen, reflecting on such a reflection, noted that "the moon does not get wet, nor is the water broken." We put such profundities to one side (not being poetical) and concentrated on getting ourselves wet - internally at least....

Here's another watery scene from last week's excursion (thanks to Superhacker for this one):

It's a Potluck/M Promptu affair next Sunday.

And please note that we will move to a 4 pm start time from Sunday 2nd April!

Next run details
When: Sunday 19th March, 5 pm
Where: John Scott Park, Samford Village
Hares: M. Promptu will set the run; Potluck will cater (please bring something to share)

The Deep South

Was this the furthest south that Samford Hash had ever ventured? Apart from weekend excursions to places like Tenterfield and Ballandean, it probably was. And even though we were only just over the other side of the river there's something about the Deep South that feels - somehow - different....

Congratulations to Superhacker and Hopalong for tempting a number of members so far out of their comfort zones! (Of course, it was just around the corner for Gastrick, Tinkerbell and Hook.) Those who made it were rewarded with some peaceful big river scenery flanking some interesting and incongruous industrial development. The walk/run through some totally unfamiliar territory was followed by a very tasty moussaka and a classy salad. Many thanks, hares!

Le W*nk, of course, had to outdo everybody by travelling even further south for a hash run. Here he is in the midst of the Dunedin Hash House Harriers - who awarded him a visitor's down, down and resisted the temptation to push him over the edge of the deck.

When: Sunday 12th March, 5 pm
