Midwinter meander 2014

No-one could complain about a lack of hills on this Sunday's trail; it also included many leafy and peaceful (except for cries of "On, on!") creekside sections. The hares' timing was spot-on for this winter solstice run: they brought runners and walkers in to land simultaneously, and nobody was left in the dark. Well done!

The satay and the vanilla slice that followed went down a treat. Was this the best meal of 2014? Game on....

We welcomed Mile High and Hugandkiss back from their exotic excursion to Turkey, and enjoyed some exotic travelers' tales. Here are some hashers fending off the camera's evil eye with the talismans (or should that be talismen?) the exotic couple brought back:

Brookside and beyond

Le W*nk had warned some of us to expect something similar to one of our previous excursions along Kedron Brook. Was that why Superhacker arrived in knee high boots? It was in fact way too cold for any close encounters with the bed of the pristine waterway...but we were able to warm up on a trail that started with a 3 km section of the Kedron Brook walkway and then went off madly in all directions.

Gourmet chefs Le W*nk and Amazing can't make do with just one kitchen like the rest of us....They used both the upstairs and downstairs ones to prepare and serve some luscious potato bake, a couple of meaty meat dishes and some dainty pastries. Thanks to them both!

The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has been in the news a bit recently, so it was a little disturbing to find a recruiter in our midst:

And a couple of beautiful babies received lots of love, cuddles and affection:

Bon voyage to Charcoal and Strine who head off to Southern Africa this week, and all the best to Make an Offer and Banger, who are opening their beaut new Samford real estate office this week too!

Rock trot

Shockjock trained another 3 apprentice brewers in the mysteries of mash brewing this Saturday. The second Hash Mash for 2014 is an India Pale Ale. If the starting hydrometer reading is right it should end up with enough kick to knock over a herd of Indian elephants. "Best drunk where you intend to spend the night," Shockjock advises. Look forward to sampling it later in the year.

Our walk/run this Sunday took us along the scenic banks (and bed) of Cedar Creek. The trail included some bush bashing and a couple of creek crossings. No-one fell in or fell down - but it might be an interesting challenge to try the route again after a glass of the Hash Mash....

It was good to welcome Kermit back on a flying visit from the NT - and to catch up with Topless, too.

Some stone meditation exercises near the start of the walk:

Seaside stroll

This last Sunday saw us strolling along the prom, prom, prom beside the seaside at Caloundra. The balmy clear weather had brought out the crowds - but we weaved our way niftily through them without knocking anyone off his (or her) walking stick and onto the ground.

With our appetites sharpened by the sea air we were ready to do justice to the feast that Megafone and friends had laid on. This included no less than 3 desserts produced by a master baker (as Eweshggr pointed out, you have to be careful of the consonants in saying this.) Many thanks to them for the scenic trail and triffic nosh!

Here's a shot of the beautiful setting:

And here's the setting again, made even more beautiful by a group of hashers and friends. Thanks to the photographer (inset):

And here's the most beautiful hasher of all:

We'll be mingling with the six-toed, two-headed denizens of Cedar Creek next week.
