Oktoberfest in Bunya

Lederhosen and dirndl dresses were in order last Sunday! Our hares treated us to an October feast of kraut, wurst and Volkstumliche Musik (oompah to you) - and we washed it all down with foaming jugs of Shockjock's classy lager and pale ale. (His detailed and highly technical brewer's notes showed that you don't achieve beer of this quality by accident.)

Oh, and we did have an excellent run and walk before this through the forested hills of Bunya (the runners also took in the streets of Ferny Hills and the Ironbark Gully picnic area....)

In other news...
- One of our members went shopping recently with his daughter. Read all about it!
- We'll be moving to a 5pm start time from the 7th November

This year's Halloween run is likely to be a quieter affair than usual. Four members are overseas, and others will be interstate. Another 15 in all are involved in the Samford production of A Midsummer Night's Dream on Friday and Saturday nights - and may have had their fill of dressing up by Sunday. But we'll see how we go - ghosts, ghoulies, witches and weirdos will gather at Wizbanger and Hot to trot's for an unscripted run. Potluck will provide the meal.

Next run details
When: Sunday 31st October, 4 pm (last of the 4pm runs)
Where: Wizbanger and Hot to trot's mausoleum, Samford village
Hares: M. Promptu will set the run. Potluck will provide the meal.

If you need directions to this run, please email or call us.

Where did all those houses come from?

This week's run - courtesy of Jamesbondage and Redbreast - demonstrated that the population boom in South East Queensland is continuing. The brand new development they led us through a few months back has sprouted countless dwellings and is bristling with builders' signs.

But the planners have established some very pleasant trails through the bushland remnants, and they certainly haven't flattened all the hills!

The runners got themselves lost for the second week in a row, but this time found the trail again after a lot of casting around. Thanks to our hares for a great run and some delicious nosh....

The circle decided that we'd move to our 5 pm summer start time from November 7th:

No word yet from our four members currently HHHiking in Nepal. We should have some good shots to post on their return!

Next run details
When: Sunday 24th October, 4 pm
Where: Shockjock and Miss Demeanour's fusebox in Bunya
Hares: Shockjock and Miss Demeanour

To save time in setting the run, the hares have announced that they will be making a big pile of flour on the ground. We will then run on the spot for an hour....

The hallowed walls of the colleges echoed

once more to cries of "On, on!" as Samford hashers took up the 2010 University Challenge. Superhacker and her parents had done a great job of setting the run/walk as late as possible so that the rain (and hungry scrub turkeys) had but little time to destroy the trail markings.

These led the walkers on a scenic route along the river, past the university lakes and fountain, and then past the famous St Lucia chippy before taking them home through the Great Court. The jacarandas were in bloom and many wedding photographers were making artistic use of them. I wonder - how many wedding photos from this weekend will feature Samford Hash?

The runners should have followed a similar circuit, but they proved themselves seriously intellectually challenged by losing the trail somewhere in St Lucia. They ended up near the Toowong Village shopping centre before they'd worked out their way home. Not even a Conceded Pass, I'm afraid....

Tennis and some seriously tasty nosh at the Tennis Centre followed - as did the rain which had fortunately held off for the run/walk itself. Many thanks to our hare and her assistanta!

Next run details
When: Sunday 17th October, 4 pm
Where: Environmental Reserve at Retreat Court, Bunya. Here’s a map. The reserve is about 700 metres on the left. Look out for the red Hyundai.

Off with the old - on, on with the new....

A few weeks back saw the last run from Wizbanger and Hot to trot's old homestead. This week saw the first of what we trust will be many from their new one!

They're in the process of transforming it into a great Hash venue - and the first stage (the classy outdoor entertainment area and the mudbath at the entrance) was only completed on Thursday. They've kindly offered it as an on, on venue for the 2010 Halloween run on October 31st. We'll try to churn up some more mud for them then....

A number of our members are taking part in the Samford production of A Midsummer Night's Dream on October 29th and 30th. A couple of them treated us to a preview of their costumes. Firstly, here's Hippolyta the warrior princess with her consort:

And here's Francis Flute the bellows mender - dressed for his role as Thisby:

(And for some reason this reminds me that the Red Dress Run this year will be on the 13th December)

It's only been a year since we enjoyed the great 2009 Samford Hash tennis challenge at the U of Q. It seems much more - there have been so many runs, so many events since then (Halloween 2009, Melbourne and Tugum weekends, Hash Christmas, Stanthorpe weekend, 1000th Run, Interhash in Borneo....)

Anyway, that time of year has rolled around again. Superhacker will be hosting a University Challenge next week - and we meet once more at the U of Q Tennis Centre for a run and a whack. This year I refuse to use the racquet with the big hole in the middle!

Next run details
When: Sunday 10th October, 4 pm
Where: University of Queensland Tennis Centre, Blair Drive, St Lucia (here's a map)
