Welcome back, Gunther!

Great news this week: Gunther was back on all four legs and eager to tackle the walk! Hydrotherapy and physio have done the trick, along (we assume) with a fair dose of dollars....

As we noted in our last post, we're expecting small numbers for the next few weeks, with more people than usual away from now until the end of May. It was a small but high-quality group that met at Wilston, to savour a hill or two and an especially enjoyable flight of stairs. As usual at this location the trail wound past some magnificent Queenslanders (houses, not people) and Grand Designs, providing plenty of scope for real-estate envy.

Our hares put on what Payback described as "an Aldi-themed meal" with sausages, salad and healthy brown rice. There were three desserts which Idle Vice had painstakingly selected from the freezer cabinet at Aldi. Good on them! This is the second run they have hosted in the last 3 weeks! Many thanks!

Our engraved Samford Hash water bottles have turned out really well, and Dumbell and Saucy Sous distributed a number of them.

(And thanks to Saucy Sous for the pics!)

Next week's run/walk details

When: Sunday 1st May, 4 pm

Where: Undambi Rotary Reserve, Mt O'Reilly Road. A map!

Hares: M. Promptu will set the run. Potluck will cater (please bring something to share)

[We're expecting small numbers, but it might still be worthwhile bringing a chair.]

Gentle Easter Eggsercise

Our hares promised an eggstremely flat eggspedition for those who'd indulged in some eggstreme Easter Feasting, and lived up to this promise. They took us off the concrete and into the paperbarks for a very pleasant bushland ramble featuring no hills at all. And it didn't rain, either.

Payback - who was on a chocolate high - tried out the designated Meditation Space and was far less eggsitable afterwards:

We celebrated one anniversary last week. This week there were three! Easter is clearly a popular time for taking the plunge into marital bliss...and congratulations to all six of you!

As usual on Easter Day, we were few in number...and we eggspect (there I go again - sorry) that we'll be few in number for the next few weeks as well. We have another couple of long weekends coming up, and after that a group of Hash caravaners are going away together. Some of us are also involved in the latest SPADEwerx production, which features two Sunday performances. All in all, hares in May will not have to cater for crowds....

Here's a poster for that SPADEwerx show, which you are invited to share around:

Next run/walk details

When: Sunday 24th April, 4 pm.

Were: Upstanding and Idle Vice's Wilston manorhouse

Hares: Idle Vice and Upstanding

(NB: PLEASE BRING CHAIRS. And if you need an address for this run/walk, please email us.)

Summiting in Keperra

Trail marking on the route to base camp had been partially washed away, but led directly to where the real climb began. Roping up at this point, we made a direct assault on the north face cliffs, summiting on the western shoulder of the Keperra Bushland. Walkers turned back at this point, while the runners donned crampons and knocked in pitons as they followed a further easterly arĂȘte. They descended by a route that featured precipitous grades on its upper sections and knee-deep mud holes on its lower ones. Lax snapped this picture of some local wildlife on the way home:

Meals at the Ferny Grove Sports Club were as scrumptious as usual (pic courtesy of Saucy Sous) and there were 25 of us to dinner:

Thanks to our hares for the run/walk and for organising the venue!

We celebrated Miss Behavin's Significant Birthday, and B&W and Trudi Fruti's anniversary. Drinks from the bar were too expensive for down, downs, so they'll have to wait....

With the easing of Covid-19 restrictions in Queensland, we decided that it was an appropriate time to return to a traditional format for meals and venues. N.B. Hares are urged not to feel impelled to offer a Gold Standard Cordon Bleu meal offering...snags and salad (or their equivalent in terms of ease of preparation) is the hash standard, folks! We know we have some outstanding cooks among us, but you don't have to use all your skills and spend the day cooking (unless you really want to.) And if you're a hare but really don't have the time to cater, we can do Potluck again at any time....

Hares Budgie and Miss Behavin' will be catering for next Sunday's Easter run/walk.

Next run/walk details

When: Sunday 17th April, 4 pm

Where: Hidden World Playground, 411 Roghan Rd, Fitzgibbon. A map!

Dusk in Dayboro

A few remnant muddy wallows near the start were the only obvious reminders of the recent Dayboro floods - otherwise everything looked as clean and scenic and green as usual. Just a couple of blots in the landscape here:

Our hares took the walkers on what should have been a familiar circuit round Fingerboard Road, but made them tackle it in reverse, and hence confused some of them...or was their conversation so fascinating that they paid no attention to the markings? There was no excuse for Haughty, who ran past some blindingly obvious marks, not once, but twice....Here's the run route, which included some gentle Dayboro inclines, and was taken at a gentle Dayboro pace:

Back home we enjoyed some daylight socialising once more, courtesy of the 4 pm start.

There were down, downs for those who had missed trail markings - and for birthday boy Upstanding:

Another Malaysian feast at the Ferny Grove Sports Club is scheduled for next week!

Next run/walk details

When: Sunday 10th April, 4 pm

Where: Ferny Grove Aqua Park, corner Samford Road and Upper Kedron Road, Ferny Grove. A map! (Note: don't bother bringing your bathers - the water's turned off until September)

Hares: Upstanding and Idle Vice will set the trail. Drinks, meals and circle at the Ferny Grove Sports Club, Tramway St.
