Park run/Walk in the park

The weather on Sunday was distinctly parky - so our excursion in and around 7th Brigade Park was a welcome opportunity to warm up a bit.  This park, of course, occupies only part of what was the Chermside military camp during WWII. (You'll find some history and images here.)

In keeping with a military tradition of confusing and dismaying the enemy, our hares' arrows ran counter to those drawn by at least one other hash. And in keeping with another military tradition (SNAFU) the walkers managed to get lost at the first opportunity and ended up walking the trail in reverse. Or perhaps they were walking backwards for Christmas (in July)?

Thanks, hares, for a really pleasant run/walk and some scrumptious curries!

Shockjock explained the finer points of milk bottle brewing to an attentive audience:

And Le W*nk was congratulated on overcoming injury to compete in the 10 k Jetty 2 Jetty run last week.

Meanwhile in Rubyvale, Charcoal, Strine and Eweshggr have been garnering some gems. Here they are at work:

And here are some results:

Oooh la la!

Eweshggr, Le W*nk and Tinkerbell - our usual suppliers of visual cliches relating to the Gallic nation - were away, but we still had no shortage of striped jerseys and berets on Sunday's Bastille Day run. Hopalong even sported a scarlet tutu!

Here's a clutch of wannabe frogeaters:

Escargot (and Dingo) took us through some totally new territory in the vicinity of the Enoggera Reservoir - well worth further exploration - and got a bit confused (i.e. lost) in leading the walkers home. The runners enjoyed some beaut scenery along the shores and ridgelines around the dam.

Back home we tucked in to some hearty Gratin de poisson and awarded our personal Michelin star to the chef. Thanks, hares!

When: Sunday 23rd July, 4 pm
Where: Navarre Street, Geebung, bordering the 7th Brigade Park. A map!

Riparian (look it up) run

Seven of us took the runners' route towards the city this last Sunday, fighting against the strange magnetism of the Regatta Hotel (which was doing its best to pull us across the road from the riverside path.) The majority headed upstream towards the attraction of Queensland's premier seat of learning. There were lots of youngsters on this week's walk/run, commiserating with one another over a return to school the next day. We drove off some usurpers from our favourite spot beside the river at Guyatt Park - merely by being there and behaving normally - and then enjoyed sunset, the rising of a full moon, cottage pie and Little Creatures. Many thanks, hares!

Early returnees:

Heimi helped clear the shelter:

Sunset (Footsie is somewhere in this shot too: look carefully)

Fluoro-clad dump nazi Escargot is planning a Gap run/walk for next week. We'll be celebrating Bastille Day, so dress is sans-culottes. You'll find reminders of previous celebrations here, here and here.

On the range - at the Rangers'

Mile High and Hugandkiss treated us to a new venue - Samford Rangers' new clubhouse - and a new route through the paddocks fringing the Royal Estates. The trail provided some great views of the Samford valley in the late afternoon light and also some interesting barbed wire obstacles for the dogs to negotiate. We returned past some multi-million dollar homes (although our presence in the area may well have provided a temporary hit to real estate values.)

Back home our hares laid on a 3-course banquet that included that essential item for a cold evening - ice cream! Many thanks, hares!

We welcomed a visitor from Spain and celebrated Le W*nk's ability to remember his lines in As You Like It....Here are a few shots from the weekend's performances showing only some of the many talented hashers who took part:
