Left-outs and left-overs

In the middle of an extended long weekend, the few of us who couldn't find anything better to do gathered at John Scott Park for a Boxing Day recovery walk/run and topped up our already-brimming stomachs with leftovers.

George and Pablo negotiate a water hazard on the walk:

And - as is traditional for this post-Christmas post - here are a few Christmas cracker cracks for your delectation:

Q: What happened to the man who stole an Advent Calendar?

A: He got 25 days!

Q: What did Santa say to the smoker?

A: Please don't smoke, it's bad for my elf!

Q: What do you call a bunch of chess players bragging about their games in a hotel lobby?

A: Chess nuts boasting in an open foyer!

Q: What did the stamp say to the Christmas card?

A: Stick with me and we'll go places!

Q: What happened to Father Christmas when he went speed dating?

A: He pulled a cracker!

Q: How did Mary and Joseph know that Jesus was 7lb 6oz when he was born?

A: They had a weigh in a manger!

See you next year, when our New Year hares Le W*nk and Lax are promising something really special!

Next run/walk details

When: Sunday 2nd January at 5 pm

Where: Dr. Valentine Mcdowall Park, Corner Devito Place and Streisand Drive, McDowall. A map!

Flight of the peafowl

Summer holidays, open borders. omicron, booster side effects, and general seasonal busy-ness - a concatenation (good word, that) of circumstances conspired to limit numbers on our last run/walk before Christmas. Those who turned up enjoyed(?) a shortish but steep and gravelly trail that earned hare Haughty a down, down later. Here he is, alongside birthday girl Lax:

Here are some illustrative shots of the walk and run, including one of the 45-degree final section:

Back at the hares' place in Cedar Creek, George achieved something special - he managed to scare the flock of invading peafowl Culture and Haughty have been plagued with, and send them flapping into the trees. (Unfortunately they're animals with very small brains and short memories - George would probably have to repeat the feat several thousand times before they really learnt the lesson.) Why "peacocks"? "Poococks" would be more appropriate....

A happy Christmas, all! We're expecting very few of us to gather next Sunday (Boxing Day), but Le W*nk and Lax have volunteered to kick off 2022 with something special on the following week...and after nearly 2 years of the pandemic, surely things can only get better....

Next run/walk details

When: Sunday 26th December, 5 pm

Where: John Scott Park, Samford Village (we'd originally said Undambi, but things have changed)

Hares: M. Promptu will set the walk/run; Potluck will supply Christmas leftovers. And due to the absence of both Beermeisters and W(h)iners, please BYO drinks as well.

Revelry and recovery

Friday night was a huge one for everyone - although these two really well-dressed elves didn't look all that huge as they flanked Mile High Santa!

So much food, so much drink, so much conversation....What a great party! Many, many thanks to our hosts Banger and Make an Offer! The following pics are courtesy - mainly - of Snappy (who took over 150 photos on the evening - wow!) Perhaps they'll help remind you of the evening....How does it go? If you can remember it you weren't really there?

Conditions were very pleasant for the traditional potluck recovery run that followed on Sunday. The walkers took on a gentle circuit around the Avenue of Honour, while the runners added a little trip up part of the range and a return via Burton Lane...that's pretty clear, isn't it? Here are some images from the walk and run, with everyone looking remarkably spry, all things considered....

As usual, Potluck served up a magnificent and varied feast. Thanks to all for their contributions!

The sad part of the circle was our farewell to Shaggy and Cadbury, who were leaving for their new home up the coast two days later. If they can't find a suitable Hash in their new location they plan to start their own. And a number of us may be paying them a visit at some time. This was their final down, down - at least for the moment:

Finally, in other news this week Gunther took out the prize for having the waggiest tail at his Golden Retriever Christmas party! Well done, old fella!

Next run/walk details

When: Sunday 19th December at 5 pm (last meet before Christmas)

Where: Annie Hedge Court, Closeburn. A map!
