On the wallaby track

Raven Street Reserve seems too small - and too heavily visited by dogs - to make a comfortable home for wallabies. But the runners did meet up with a wallaby who looked very much at home. Perhaps hashers are not the only form of wildlife to make use of the wildlife bridge across Hamilton Road....

For the second time in a fortnight our gallant hares Le W*nk and Amazing set a well-marked trail that wound along bushland tracks and suburban streets - and went up and down a bit as well. And once again they served up a gourmet feast, this time with an Aussie BBQ theme. Amazing was so exhausted following the double header she went straight home to pack her boogie board bag and catch a plane to Bali. Hope she doesn't forget the boogie board amongst everything else she packs in there. Thanks to them both!

And Superhacker has returned home after an encounter with an orthopedic surgeon. He told her that she'll be back running pretty soon - great news!

Gyre and gimble

"Feels like we're going round in circles," one of the runners commented on Sunday.

And of course we were - but isn't that what Hash running is all about? Getting from A to A?

Our circling took over 30 runners and walkers on a varied trail which incorporated both bush and burbs - and just as many declines as inclines (though it might not have felt that way.) The runners' route even included a visit to the site of the historic Le W*nk mansion. There's not much to see there now. The shady verandahs...the swimming pool...the giant TV screen...the parking for 5 cars...the chook pen...all gone, gone forever! Makes you think, eh?

It was good to welcome baby Eloise to her second Hash outing (she slept through the whole thing again.)

In honour of St. Paddy's Day, our two Notre Dame alumni In Your Dreams and Haughty attempted a rendition of the "Fighting Irish" Fight Song. It should have sounded a bit more like this:

And Le W*nk and Amazing - gluttons for punishment - are doing it again this coming Sunday! Wonder what'll be for dinner?

"It's not a race!"

A Hash run is not a race, but two of our doggy members just felt like racing round in circles. All bets were off as they reversed direction and the leader became the follower:

The competitors were cheered on by both canine and human spectators:

We'd arrived back from a gentle saunter through the trees below Jolly's Lookout to a campfire and traditional camp oven dinner. Many, many kilos of marinated BBQed chicken disappeared as well. Thanks to our hares!

And talking of racing, some runners have mooted plans to attempt (note: verb chosen with care) the Gold Coast and/or Sunshine Coast marathons this year....Watch this space, folks.

It looks as though we may be back in Bunyaville SF this coming Sunday. It's a nice bit of bush - pity it's so boringly flaaaat.

Our youngest member

Wasn't it great to welcome new member Eloise and new mother Hardcore to the run/walk on Sunday? The smallest, youngest addition to the Samford Hash family showed how much she enjoyed her first Hash experience by sleeping all the way through it.

Mother and child:

Plus proud grandmother Bigtop:

Plus the group of 30 or so members who found their way home to John Scott Park on a beaut afternoon in Samford:

If it takes a village to raise a child, could Samford Hash be counted as a village? And if it were, would it be wise to entrust the raising of a child to a village with so many idiots in it? (Which reminds me - thanks to Le W*nk for taking the group photo.)

Potluck, as usual, provided a varied and tasty feast.

Next run details
