Aloha-sh Christmas 2023 - getting leid

HHHuge thanks to Dumbbell and Saucy Sous for hosting this year's Hash Christmas party and doing such an amazing job! Brilliant decor, beautiful bar and photobooth, fantastic party games, and a great setting, including the much-appreciated pool! Even the lack of power till 7.30 only added to the atmosphere...truly an evening to remember!

Thanks also to the Hash brewers, led by Shockjock, for this year's Hash Mash, to Cash Converta and Payback for organising door and costume prizes, to Santa Jamesbondage, and to all for their contributions to a magnificent feast.

Samford Hashers really came out of the woodwork, and it was great to welcome Hopalong, all the way from the UK, and Oishi and kids, all the way from Japan....

We have a cornucopia of pics for this week's post, from multiple cameras. What follows here is just a selection from Snappy's, Cash Converta's and Saucy Sous' shots - you'll find more, including quality photo-booth portraits, in this album. Check out even more beaut candid shots and portraits in this album of Banger's images. And you'll find some video shot by Banger here.

There were 40 people (using the term in its widest possible sense) at the party - and 19 of these turned up for Sunday's recovery run from John Scott Park, to enjoy leftovers, swap stories and reclaim lost property....

Next Sunday is Christmas Eve, and there will be no meet then. However, you're urged to come along and share a sausage (or two) on the last day of the year, before you head out to party elsewhere. Are sweaty Hash shirts acceptable wear at any of the clubs in the Valley?

Next run/walk details

When: Sunday 31st December, 5 pm.

Where: Teralba Park, Mitchelton. Pullen Road carpark, near the Scout Hut. A map!

Tis the season...

for snowmen in 30 degree heat,

for over-the-top Christmas light displays,

for wombats with antlers,

and for Hash Christmas party preparations....

Our hares Idle Vice and Upstanding took us on a flat(ish) circuit that showed off the highlights of the area - the hipster cafes, the hoarders' houses, the eyefulls of festive illumination, and (probably) the odd murder site as well. The runners were not very good at seeing arrows and added quite a bit to the route they were intended to take, but (shh, don't tell anyone) took a shortcut on the way home.

Back at the hares' we enjoyed curry, rice and pavlova, while the Wilston fruitbats began their evening excursions overhead. Great run, great meal - thanks to Upstanding and Idle Vice!

Here are a few more pics from the occasion, courtesy of Saucy Sous and Cash Converta:

Back at the hares':

On Thursday some Hash members will be meeting with Hopalong to sort and shift some gear in Superhacker's lockup. And then on Saturday we'll be meeting at Dumbbell and Saucy Sous' for the 2023 Hash Christmas party. There'll be about 40 people, tons of food, the 2023 Hash Mash ale, games, Secret Santa and more! We expect a smallish recovery run - and leftovers - on Sunday.

Next run/walk details

When: Sunday 17th December, 5 pm

Where: John Scott Park, Samford Village

Hares: M. Promptu will choose the route. Potluck will cater (leftovers from Hash Christmas, we hope)

Red curry, red dresses, and large chalk arrows

A real Hashfest this last week, folks, and lots of large arrows! Sunday saw us out in Dayboro, where Banger had responded to our failing eyesight by setting a trail with the biggest chalk markings we've seen for a long time...and where the walkers responded to his warnings about boggy areas at the start by walking straight through them! From here followed a bucolic and scenic circuit around Fingerboard Road and the Showgrounds, with the runners adding a loop or two and surveying the course for the Dayboro International Beer Mile on the way. Banger has been in training, and will be a serious contender for this event in 2024....

Our hares on Sunday have a well-deserved reputation for laying on great meals, and the red Thai curry we enjoyed at their hilltop hideaway was delicious. There was also what the glossy mags would call a decadent dessert, plus the usual opportunities for the photographers to try to capture the Dayboro sunset skies. Many, many thanks to Banger and Make an Offer!

We welcomed a visitor all the way from China!

Here are some shots from Sunday, courtesy of Snappy.

Monday evening saw a bunch of us head south of the river, where Tinkerbell had responded to our failing eyesight by setting a trail with large chalk arrows every 20 metres or so....Numbers at the Red Dress Run seem to have fallen off in the last couple of years, so the Samford contingent of 13 runners and walkers was reasonably impressive - and if it hadn't been for Covid, we'd have had even more there. Here's the group (minus the late Culture) before the start:

As always, Mile High and Hugandkiss were absolute stars in the fashion stakes:

In fact, for the umpteenth year in a row, fashionista Mile High was once again officially declared the winner of the prestigious "Best dressed" award at the Plough Inn onon, receiving a bottle as the Grand Champion and Best in Show. Well done to him and his stylist alike! He's probably in the running for a Lifetime Achievement Award!

As always, a very enjoyable outing, and a fun way to raise funds for the Salvos!
