Rainy day man

The rain gods seem to know when Leave Pass has set a run and to do their best to obliterate the markings. This time he defied their attempts by doggedly going back and re-laying the trail....He produced a great meal too, with just the right blend of Rogans and Joshes. Many thanks!

Hardcore was back in her accustomed position at the head of the pack, pausing occasionally to let the rest of the runners catch up. It was good to see that Hornblower had recovered from his bout of tennis ankle and was able to take Le W*nk's hound for a run.

Those hashers who were members of the cast of "An Ideal Husband" were able to relax after playing to 2 packed and enthusiastic houses. And we welcomed a visitor from San Francisco, who had traveled half-way round the world especially to view the production and to come for a walk with us....

We have a virgin hare next week - Hornblower. Word is that he's a dab hand at sizzling a snag!

Glutes and gluhwein

There's nothing like a typical Clear Mountain trail for exercising one's gluteus maximus, and this Sunday's one was no exception. The climbs out of some of the gullies were hard enough on legs - they must be terrifying in a vehicle.  Thanks to Charcoal for a well-marked and interesting circuit!

And there's nothing like a cup of gluhwein served round a roaring fire on a chilly evening. Add to that some of Strine's rib-filling pasta, and it's no wonder the Hash lingered at the hares' place....

Hornblower joined Le W*nk and Shockjock on the list of walking wounded this week. Dangerous game, tennis. Get well soon, guys - the walkers may be enjoying your company, but the runners are missing youse!

Da da-da da da da daaa da-da

Once again we erected the guillotine at Mt. Nebo for our Bastille Day run, and celebrated all things French - French doors, French leave, French maids, French knickers and French letters included.

Eweshggr ("Mouton Baise") incorporated some long and arduous check-backs into the trail, in celebration of that great event in French military history, the 1812 retreat from Moscow. And some of the walkers celebrated French military discipline by ignoring quite obvious arrows and making up their own route....

Escargot provided a rib-filling pot-au-feu feast as we warmed up in her cozy chateau, and we attempted the English version of the Marseillaise (you know - the words go "Da da-da da da da daaa da-da....")

Thanks to Escargot, Eweshggr, and also to B&W who stepped in to help set the run after Eweshggr was unexpectedly called away to Scotland.

Luck of the door

This last Sunday morning was cold and windy in Samford, but by the time some 25 of us gathered at Topless's beach cottage she had calmed the gales and smoothed the billows. It turned out to be a perfect Queensland winter afternoon for a stroll along the esplanade to Scott's Point and the Woody Point jetty.

Hash Nosh took the form of yet another top-notch banquet, featuring 4 tasty courses - soup, mains, cake and ice-cream, and finally (for those who could manage it) strudel! Somebody is going to have to bring us down to earth one day with some snags and salad, but the bout of high living that we have been enjoying recently has been wonderful. Thanks to all our recent hares for lavishing such gourmet delights on us!

Topless also laid on a lucky door prize session as part of the circle. Vielen dank for the run/walk and for your generous hospitality!

We welcomed Charcoal and Strine back from the wilds of Africa where they had survived some luxury accommodation, encounters with hippos and black rhinos, and some pretty hair-raising vehicular journeys. Strine had been bitten while in Kruger National Park - probably by some species of arachnid. Though it was not one of the Big 5, this critter certainly produced some spectacular effects:

Hardcore joined the runners for the first time in some 14 months - and it was a bit embarrassing to find out how fast she still is after such a long layoff! Doesn't time fly? - young Eloise is already 5 months old....

And Bastille Day has rolled around already too! It seems hardly any time since we were learning where to stick a baguette last year....Our hares for this year, Escargot and Eweshggr ("Mouton Baise") are once again inviting us to dress up in our best French designer gear - "a tutu perhaps, or French maid's outfit, or blue and white stripy shirt, with onions", etc. But they do have one request: "no visible French letters, please."

Next run details
When: Sunday 13th July, 4 pm
Where: Chez Eweshggr ("Mouton Baise") at Mt Nebo

Leave Pass comes of age

The foodies among us seem to be thoroughly engaged in the 2014 Hash Nosh competition, and the rest of us are thoroughly enjoying the results. Superhacker certainly upped the stakes this Sunday! 4 (or was it 5?) different curries! Rice! Potato bake! What a feast!

This magnificent meal followed a beautifully umbrageous (look it up) run/walk along the bikeways that line The Gap section of Enoggera Creek. Nothing like a brisk trot on a freezing day....Thanks, hares!

The runners were joined by Floater, back in town after 2 years touring Oz and another 2 studying in Hobart. You can catch up on some of her latest artwork here.

We wished happy birthday to Leave Pass, who has finally come of age, and who will be staid and well-behaved from now on. He didn't have 60-something candles on the cake he brought to treat us, but it did take him 60-something attempts to blow them out!

Welcome back, Floater!

Curry feast!
