If you thought...

the Age of Chivalry was dead, you were proved wrong this Sunday. Some of our younger members stood in the freezing water at a creek crossing, offering to help the walkers across, and - surprise, surprise - didn't pull them in! They must have been sorely tempted....

The hares' well-marked circumambulation of the village proved very popular, with about 30 humans and canines showing the Samford Hash flag. The humans decimated the nosh afterwards, while the canines attempted to decimate one another.

Notable upcoming events include:
- Charcoal's Significant Birthday run next Sunday
- A Brass Monkeys camping weekend at Jimna State Forest the following week
- The Samford production of The Tempest on the 8th and 9th of July - which features many Hash notables. Here's Hot to Trot looking unusually mean as the evil Duchess Antonia....

When: Sunday 29 May, 4 pm

Fast falls the eventide...

It fell so fast this Sunday that the walkers got home in the dark - and with the dark came the evening chill. A brazier at the on, on was very welcome. And the fire in the brazier was even more welcome. Makes you think...a number of us will be camping at Jimna State Forest on the first weekend of June. Are we mad, or what?

Our hares led us on a scenic jaunt around the back blocks of Cashmere and Eaton's Hill, and found a few ups and downs to enliven the route. A few suicidal small dogs came racing out along the way to take on Bruno, Cassie and Heimie. Were they mad as well?

A special treat at the on, on was Cash Converta's zucchini soup. Here, by popular demand, is the recipe:

Zucchini & Macadamia Soup

Serves 8
Prep time 10 minutes
Cooking time 15 minutes
Suitable for freezing

1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1 kg zucchini, grated
4 garlic cloves, crushed
Half small fresh red chilli, finely chopped
5 cups (1.25L) chicken stock
Two thirds cup (90g) macadamia nuts
1 1/4 cups (100g) grated parmesan, plus extra to serve

1. Heat oil in a large saucepan on high. Cook zucchini, garlic and chilli for 10 minutes, until zucchini softens. Add stock. Bring to boil and simmer for 5 minutes.
2. Process macadamias to a fine meal. Stir three-quarters of macadamia meal and grated parmesan through zucchini mixture. Using a hand held blender, blend until smooth.
3. Season to taste. Top with remaining macadamia meal and extra parmesan and serve.

Yum!! Serious yum!!

Mum's the word

Great news! From this Mothers' Day on, the female members of Samford Hash have their own girl's-only Award to match the macho Tight Jocks one! It's a case of tit for tat - in the shape of some serious tat for tits! Here are the donors of the Award, Superhacker and Hopalong, demonstrating how the tassels work:

And here's the first-time winner of the annual award - "Big Mamma" Culture - enjoying a one-litre birthday down-down:

These awards are of course open to all - you can exhibit fatherly behaviour without being a biological father, and be motherly (even be a Mother Superior) without being a biological mother...but it's good to have a bit of gender equality in the Hash (and good to be able to make some pointed boob jokes too. Thanks for the mammaries....)

The hares had set an eye-opening run/walk through the abodes of some of Brisbane's wealthiest...the cream of them protected by a broad moat from plebs like us. It was a really interesting and enjoyable outing, followed up by some triffic nosh. Many thanks, hares!

Nipliquor had experimented earlier in the week with stopping a moving vehicle with his foot. It didn't work - and his foot doesn't work all that well at the moment either:

But he completed the walk anyway - well done!

In yet another naming ceremony we welcomed Huckleberry to the Hash!

The serious drinkers had got back early:

And we were a lively bunch at the on, on:

On, on, comrades!

On Sunday we took part in a truly historic event - for the first time EVER (I'm sure) the original words to "Keep the red flag flying" were sung in Samford! And the singing was not too bad, either...
Then raise the scarlet standard high
Within its shade we live and die,
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
We'll keep the red flag flying here!

There was enough mud on the run/walk to share around without anyone feeling they'd been left out. And true to the spirit of the occasion, the meal was also a communal affair, exemplifying the slogan: "From each according to her ability, to each according to his needs". As always on pot luck evenings, it was a real feast!

Miss Demeanour's birthday was celebrated in the usual way. It really didn't seem a year since her last birthday down-down, but that was at the Shggr's memorable 2010 ANZAC Day run....

Here's a little story that Stalin himself evidently enjoyed telling:
A delegation from Georgia meets with Stalin in his office. After they have gone, he notices his pipe is missing. He calls Beria (chief of secret police) and tells him.

A few minutes later, however, he finds the pipe under a pile of papers. He calls Beria back and tells him not to bother with the investigation.

"It's too late," says Beria. "Half the members of the delegation have confessed to the theft, and the other half died while they were being interviewed...."

Having upped the workers this week, we'll be associating ourselves with Brisbane's upper crust next Sunday for our Mothers' Day run. Bigtop, Urass and Hardcore are calling all mothers, prospective mothers, and makers of mothers to a trail from Newstead Park! Of course we do expect them to be laying flour through Newstead House itself... but in case you're running too fast to examine its treasures you can take a virtual tour here.

And finally: For sale - 1 slightly used camping stove, found at Undambi Reserve on Sunday. Offers over $400....no tyre-kickers, please. Interested? Contact next week's hares.
