Stairs and stares

We've had two runs/walks featuring stairs - lots of stairs - this week, and one that generated lots of bemused stares as well....

On Sunday Upstanding and Idle Vice took us up to enjoy a drink stop and the views from the top of Eildon Hill. There were plenty of stairs to ascend in order to get there, and a lot more to descend and ascend and descend and ascend and descend (etc.) on a new track that waggles around the side of the hill. It was an interesting and varied route which also featured plenty of classy real estate to gawp at.

Back at the hares' we enjoyed more of the wonderfully varied gastronomic offerings they're famous for. Many thanks to Idle Vice and Upstanding!

In the circle we conferred a name on someone who's been joining us on Sundays for a while - a former law enforcer and marathon runner, and a current bikie, and a good bloke....Welcome, Outlaw!

Monday evening then saw a sizable Samford contingent take part in the Brisbane Red Dress Run through the considerably done-up bits of South Brisbane (which turned out to be bits with lots of stairs as well.) A number of Samford hashers took the train from Ferny Grove, and unsurprisingly had the carriage to themselves:

Here we are in all our finery before the start:

The route had all the tricky check-backs and intricate weaving through lane-ways and back alleys that one might expect - as well as plenty of exposure to the cheering diners at innumerable restaurants and the quiet strollers through Southbank. Cadbury distinguished herself by the number of donations she collected for the Salvos en route.

After wetting our whistles at the Pig and Whistle, we retired down the road to the West End Garden for some healthy tucker in an atmosphere where we could hear one another talk.

Here we were joined by Hopalong and had a chance to farewell her - she was hopping along to the airport the next day in order to hop onto a flight to the UK. She'll be staying with Malpractice and B-Flat and working (with horses) quite nearby. All the best, Hopalong, and on, on!

Newlyweds Lax and Le W*nk paid a visit to St. George this last week - and found the flood gates on the weir open for the first time (probably) in decades:

Lax indicating the walkers' route:

We're getting a taste of some flooding rain ourselves at the moment, but it looks as though the Samford Skies should be pretty clear next Sunday....
