Rabbiting on....

This Sunday marked the start of another Year of the Rabbit. The last Rabbit year was in 2011...the year we celebrated Samford Hash's 20th birthday. And here we are, still rabbiting on....

It's quite amusing looking back over the archives from that time twelve years ago. How young we all looked! It was the year after a number of us had been at Interhash in Borneo, and as a Hash we mostly stayed at home. But it was still a pretty active year, as shown in these links to some of the highlights:

In January 2011 we experienced lots of flooding rain (sounds familiar?). Then in February we celebrated Samford Hash's 20th birthday with a really enjoyable Evening of Elegance. Our Mother Superior award was inaugurated in May 2011. And in June we went away for a camping weekend at Jimna. In August 2011 we visited the German club, and then in September held some special Oktoberfest celebrations. October ended with one of our memorable Halloween runs, while in December 2011 we enjoyed a very memorable Hash Christmas party and took part in the 2011 Red Dress run. What a year!

Our hares this Sunday invited us to join them at the historic Nundah cemetery, and according to Cash Converta 31 of us took up the invitation (I'm not sure if she was including the local ghost in that number):

From the dead centre of Nundah our route took us past the thoroughly dead retail centre of Toombul and along the scenic Kedron Brook - a stream whose upper reaches in Ferny Grove, Arana Hills, Mitchelton, Everton Park and Stafford we are pretty familiar with. Here are a few of the walkers on a track that was thronged with with cyclists, runners, walkers and scootists (is that a word?):

Back home we replenished our precious bodily fluids and tucked into ample supplies of salads and snags. The meal was topped off with a caramel and chocolate birthday cake - yum! Many thanks to our hares! And happy birthday, Le W*nk!

Some of the Hash Femmes had been doing a little research on what we are all about, and Miss Demeanour has urged me to include the following quote for the benefit of anyone who is not quite sure: "Hashing is an exhilaratingly fun combination of running, orienteering, and partying, where bands of harriers and harriettes chase hares on eight-to-ten kilometer-long trails through town, country, forests, creeks, and desert, all in search of exercise, camaraderie, and good times." (Source - https://onin.com/hhh/hhhexpl.html) It's been a while since many of us completed a ten kilometre trail, but we do pretty well on the "partying" and "good times" front. Samford Hash Femmes certainly seem to have had a good time on their elegant Saturday excursion. Don't they scrub up well?
