"Still falls the rain"

(to quote Edith Sitwell, or Roxy Music, or Black Sabbath). Except that - despite the torrents of rain we'd had during the week, and the forecasts - the rain held off on Sunday afternoon. And we even saw a patch or two of blue sky!

There was plenty of evidence on our route of how much water had fallen from the sky and run down Cabbage Tree Creek in the past few days. Everyone got his or her feet a bit damp, and Pablo loved the mud. Jacarandas were in flower, and everything looked very green and lush.

Over in WA, Floater has also been battling plenty of rain, and wind and tempest:

but she now has less than 70 out of 1000 scenic kilometres to go:

What a magnificent journey!

Back home here, our hare Shockjock had even swept out the leaf litter from the shelter! And the toilet was unlocked! Luxury! We thanked Upstanding for five years of service as Beermeister, and thanked both Idle Vice and Upstanding for their years of looking after the washing up. Thanks to our hares for marking the trail so diligently, for the meal, and for turning off the rain....

The Red Dress Run is coming up on Monday 7th December - and despite what Google AI may be telling you - the venue is the Prince Consort Hotel in Wickham St, NOT the Ship Inn. This run raises money for a very good cause and (as always) should be a lot of fun. And no-one should feel at all awkward wearing a red dress in The Valley....

We'll dress up for Halloween next Sunday. No-one should feel at all awkward dressing up in Murrumba Downs either....Remember that we'll be moving to a 5 pm start time from this run onwards.

Next run/walk details
When: Sunday 1st November, 5 pm. 5 pm. 5 pm.
Where: Budgie and Miss Behavin's vampire castle in Murrumba Downs.
Hares: Miss Behavin' and Budgie

Please bring chairs. And if you need an address for this run please email us.

Contrary to expectations

rain had not washed away the marks on Sunday's trail, although for one runner it might as well have done. Some others gathered round the arrow he'd missed, but by then he was well on his own way home:

There'd been a lot of maintenance done on the trail to Bellbird Grove, which was good to see. And though no-one saw or heard a bellbird, there were some curlews around - which was also good to see:

The walkers completed their usual loop, while the runners added the usual goldmine trail...finding as much gold as they usually do. Back home in the park, hares Leave Pass and Snappy regaled us with a tasty assortment of lasagna, cottage pie and exotic salads. Many thanks to our hares, and to everyone else who contributes!

After a little discussion we decided to move to a 5 pm start in two week's time - on the 1st of November. This is the after Halloween proper, but, what the heck? Let's dress up anyway!

Black, black, all black....

Don't they start to get a bit boring - rugby games in which the result is a forgone conclusion? Anyway, a couple of rugby tragics commemorated the latest of these on Sunday, one sad, one happy....One day, perhaps, the result will be different. But when?

There'd been an intense storm over Samsonvale earlier in the day, but the "Dayboro dome" had protected the trail markings from being washed out. The walkers took on a route that wiggled around a bit before heading through the showgrounds and up the hill past the site of the Dayboro Beer Mile. Beyond that was a swooping magpie and an incline or two:

The runners added a few more inclines, and some of them paused to catch their breath and take a selfie at the top of one:

Back at the hares' we enjoyed some very tasty and rib-filling cottage pie, followed by apple crumble and custard. Yum! Many thanks to our hares Make an Offer and Banger!

There was a down, down for a short-cutting runner:

And here are some scenic views - not a storm cloud in sight, more's the pity.

Meanwhile, in Western Australia, Floater is now well past the halfway point in her 1000 km trek! Good on her!

Coming up:

  • the Red Dress Run on Monday 7th December, and
  • our Hash Christmas Party on the 19th. The theme will be "Christmas" or "Country" (as in "Country and Western") - special points to those who can combine the two!

Next run/walk details
When: Sunday 18th October, 4 pm
Where: Parksedge Street, Upper Kedron (the usual place). A map!

Please bring chairs.
