Reptilian fatalities and gargantuan appetites

Two squished green snakes were among the notable features of this Sunday's excursion - a good reminder that their live cousins are likely to be stirring in the lovely warm Spring weather. We didn't meet any on our scenic riparian ramble along the South Pine, but they must have been there. Big Donk flew solo this week, both setting the trail and cooking vast quantities of very tasty "piyah!". He didn't think we'd get through the contents of three large baking trays, and nor did we - but there was nothing left at the end of the evening. And there was not much ice cream or fruit salad left either....Many thanks to Big Donk for a great afternoon and early evening!

Creatures other than snakes are also stirring, and Miss Demeanour sported two ticks in her hair when she got back from the walk, while Make an Offer was horrified the day before to find that a leech had made its way right up her leg and turned itself enormous on her lifeblood. It's a dangerous world out there - take care, people.

Floater is now well over a third of the way on her 1000 km expedition in Western Australia, and we've been delighting in the pics she's been sharing. Here's her presentation of a selected few...what a great trip!

Superhacker arrives in Brisbane this week for her biennial Australian trip. We're hoping to see as many as possible at a Hash-formal soiree on Saturday night ("What's a soiree?" "French for piss-up, mate") and then her UQ run next Sunday.

Bunyaville bushbash

It's been a while since we took on the trails around the Bunyaville picnic area, and it was very pleasant to meet beneath the tall trees:

Our hare Jamesbondage supplied the walkers with a marked trail and the runners with a map - and suggested to anyone who didn't like those alternatives that they pick their own path using the signboard as a guide. No-one got lost, and we gathered back at the picnic area for Redbreast's Dublin Cobble (haven't had that for a while, either) and home-made strudel - yum! Many thanks to our hares!

It was rugby tragic Budgie's birthday, and fellow tragic Le W*nk presented him with - wait for it - an All Blacks shirt! So what should he do when Australia plays New Zealand? Takes both shirts along and swap them according to who's winning? (It's just possible that the All Blacks one might get more wear....)

And now that the shops are starting to stock Christmas gear (after all, there are only three months to go) we had to fix on a date for the 2026 Hash Christmas party - and we did during the circle. Mark your diaries now and carve it in stone - it will be on Saturday 19th December!

Up the creek

The air was clear, the enclosing hills were varied greens, the water flowed chuckling through the rocks, and generally God was in his heaven and all was right with the world - or at least with the little world of Cedar Creek....The simple trail took the walkers to where the road ends, while the runners did a bit of rock-hopping to take them further upstream on the way towards Mt. Glorious. Some car-pooling delivered the gang to the hares' place afterwards, where we tucked into some chicken stew, veg curry and rice, followed by berry crumble and - courtesy of Miss Demeanour - liquorice!

Spring has sprung, but many wrapped themselves in blankies as the evening drew in. And Shockjock was awarded a down, down for embracing a strange woman he encountered on the run. It turned out that she was one of Miss Demeanour's best friends...does that make his actions better or worse?

On the shady side of the street

Fathers' Day 2026 was marked by a sudden leap in temperature, up to the mid-30s! Thanks to Upstanding for getting out in the heat to mark a trail. And a special thanks to him for modifying his plans and keeping that trail on the flat and on the shady side of the street....Housing upgrades in Wilston continue to astound, and the local school is evidently suffering from a lack of enrolments, since young families can't afford to live in the area, or at least to have children there. Interesting.

Prompted by the heat, a proposal to move to a summer start time earlier this year was discussed in the circle. So this year we may not wait until Halloween to make the change. Fortunately, the temperature for next Sunday is predicted to be more in keeping with the season.

And as the sun set and a breeze sprang up, conditions in our hares' back yard grew very pleasant. Thank very much to our hares for their hospitality!
