Off-leashed

Sadly, in the last three weeks we have lost two of our much-loved canine members - Leave Pass' long-term companion Heimie, and now Escargot's faithful walking and hashing companion, Peggy. RIP. They are both sadly missed. And we offer our condolences to the bereaved. Here's a reminder of happier times - with Heimie, George, and Peggy celebrating the late Darcy's 14th birthday, back in 2017:

Six of our members were away on the Gold Coast this last weekend. They have sent these pics of their breakaway hash excursion from Labrador to Runaway Bay (and, we assume, back again):

And here's a dramatic shot of some of the weather they've been enjoying:

The bulk of us took on a trail which included a section of the old Camp Mountain rail route, which winds gently through some typical Camp Mountain bush. From this a short and somewhat overgrown route took us to one of the many Camp Mountain "gold mines" (the term seems wrong, given the fact that so little gold was ever found - let's just call them "futile holes in the ground"). There'd been some more rock falls since a few of us first found the site while on a bike ride in 2013 (don't we look young?):

The risks didn't deter a number of the walkers from exploring the depths of the hole, and disturbing the resident bat. Here are a few shots from the walk, and one of some runners:

We made our way back to Cassimaty Park in Ferny Grove for a meal of curry and crumble, the odd drink or two, and the odd joke or two as well:

Snappy dressed to match the tablecloth:

Sunday also saw Hardcore take on the Bridge to Brisbane and achieve an excellent time:

This year the course returned to a route beginning on the southern end of the Gateway Bridge - which means you begin with a 1.1 km hillclimb. Well run, Hardcore!

Samford usually makes a good showing at the Red Dress Run - no more so than in 2017, when Mile High took out the award for the best-dressed male!

You'll find reminders of some past runs here and here and here. And for the newbies - no, there is a walkers' route as well as a runners' one....

This year the Red Dress Run returns to a Monday evening - the 29th November - and doesn't clash with our Christmas party. It would be great to have a good Samford turnout for an event which is always a lot of fun....Here's a copy of this year's flyer:

You can try scanning the QR code on the flyer to donate $10 and enter...or click on this link: www.fundraise.salvationarmy.org.au/red-dress-run-2021

Keep a copy of your receipt to show when you turn up at the Pig and Whistle in all your finery!

We're at the seaside again this next week!
