Multi-million dollar views

Our hares on Sunday took us up the hill above their place, where the squillion-dollar houses cluster with their Lotuses and Maseratis in the driveways. Fortunately, we were able to get a glimpse from the trail of the sorts of views their owners have paid for...and our hares had developed an innovative chalk mark to indicate where we should pause to look out to the Gateway Bridge, the bay and beyond.

Between the top of the hill and Newmarket rail station is a long flight of stairs that I don't think any of us knew about - a well-kept secret. And down on the Newmarket flats there were yet more bezillion-dollar renovations and extensions to feast our eyes on. The route along Enoggera Creek was lined with posters indicating that the locals are not all that happy about Brisbane City Council's draft plan for the area. You can get an idea of what that's all about from this summary of their objections.

We had as usual a number of dogs on the excursion, ranging from the large:

to the small:

to the minute (this was Teddy's first Hash outing):

Snappy again did her paparazzi thing, capturing some great candid shots of walkers on the trail as well as some more views:

Back home, we lined the driveway and the workshop area under the house to enjoy snags, salad and lentil cottage pie - all great hash fare. Many thanks to our hospitable hares!

And Snappy experimented with a Rembrandt effect. Who'd have thought that lighting alone could make these blokes look mysterious and interesting?

Finally, the Hash Femmes "Mothers' Ruin" outing is coming up in a couple of weeks, and you should have received an email about how to pay Cadbury if you're going. The old slogan "Drunk for a penny, dead drunk for tuppence" doesn't apply any more, but no doubt the quality of the gin is better. Here's a detail from a picture of the venue by Billy Hogarth:
