This year saw the usual debate about whether our National Day should really celebrate the occasion on which Australian Border Protection policies failed most spectacularly - January 26th, 1788. On the one hand, we do like celebrating failures (e.g. Gallipoli.) On the other...well, we do always run on a Sunday. So this year we did our bit towards reconciliation (and our own convenience) by wagging the flag for Oz on January 29th.
What do you like best about Australia?
"Swimming between the flags"
"Mullets, blue wife-beaters and coldies"
"Hats you can store coldies in"
"Blowing me own trumpet"
Here's the group of 32 humans - plus canines - before the start (minus a couple of latecomers.) Thanks to Topless for the photography. Click to view, and see if you can make out Tinkerbell skulking in the background somewhere....
Our hares took us on an enjoyable and varied loop through bush and along bitumen, past ancient trees and new housing. They followed this up with a highly traditional Oz-cuisine meal featuring meed poys, mushy peas, mashed podayder and termarder sauce, with pavs (or pevs, if you prefer) for dessert. Many thanks to them for the run, meal and decor!
Hare Jamesbondage was this year's champion thong-tosser:
