Cold noses, warm nosh

Hardcore brought her friends Elvis and Lola to this Sunday's run, but they and Heimie were not the only ones there with cold wet noses. Thanks to an air mass straight from Antarctica, this had to be the coldest run of the year so far....

Potluck once more served up a magnificent and welcome hot meal. Delicious pumpkin soup, chicken curry and rice, hot vege pie, fried rice, pasta - lots of recipes for this year's cookbook!

We also held another naming ceremony, welcoming Rocky Horror and Shell Shock to the ranks of Samford Hashers.

Only a fortnight now till the 1000th run!

And in honour of Elvis and Lola, here's a little poodle story:

A wealthy lady takes her old poodle on a photo safari in Africa.

One day the poodle starts chasing butterflies and before long discovers that he's lost. What's worse, he notices a leopard stalking him, clearly intending to have him for lunch.

The old poodle has to think quickly. Noticing some bones on the ground close by, he immediately settles down to chew on them with his back to the approaching cat.

Just as the leopard is about to leap, the poodle exclaims, "Boy, that was a delicious leopard! I wonder if there are any more around here?"

Hearing this, the young leopard stops in his tracks.

"Whew!" he thinks, "That was close! That old poodle nearly had me!"

Meanwhile, a monkey has been watching the whole scene from a nearby tree. He thinks he can put his knowledge to good use, and heads off after the leopard. The old poodle sees him go....

The monkey soon catches up with the leopard, tells the tale and strikes a deal for himself. The young leopard is furious at being made a fool of. He says, "Here, monkey, hop on my back and see what's going to happen to that cunning canine!"

When the old poodle sees the leopard approaching with the monkey on his back he has to think quickly again. He sits down with his back to his attackers, pretending he hasn't seen them yet.

Just when they get close enough to hear, the old poodle exclaims, "Where's that damn monkey? I sent him off an hour ago to bring me another leopard!"
