Dayboro dawdle

It was a beaut winter afternoon for a sunset saunter around the bustling metropolis of Dayboro. We met in the heart of the CBD, near the Museum of Antiquities and the vast IGA department store and surrounded by other towering commercial and cultural premises. From here our route took us past the internationally-renowned art gallery and into the outer suburbs, where we were overlooked by the frowning cliffs of the mountain ranges in which the city is set....The air was crystal-clear and sharp and cold, and we were grateful for the last rays of the golden winter sun. Another notable point of interest on the way was one of Make an Offer's Sold signs, decorated with a blue ribbon tied with her own fair hands.

We are allowed to run and walk through the Dayboro Showgrounds (unlike the Samford ones, which we've been chased off in the past) but there were certain walkers who looked the other way and missed the arrow which would have taken them in through the gates. In fact there were so many short-cutters that we couldn't afford to give them all a down, down. They'll keep.

Back at the hares' we were greeted by their spectacular new entry gates. A blazing fire basket of a most impressive and ingenious design took the edge off the wintry chill. And then we tucked into some vats of Thai curry and rice, followed up by banana cake and custard, and - except for the lazy ones who remained seated - some toasted marshmallows! All in all, our hares served up a well-marked and scenic trail and a great meal and ambiance - many, many thanks to Banger and Make an Offer!

Rocking on

Rain hadn't been predicted, but a sudden shower greeted us as we gathered this last Sunday. Umbrellas made an appearance for the chalk talk...but fortunately weren't needed after we set out. Runners and most walkers headed out downstream along Cedar Creek, negotiating a rocky causeway with the aid of some walking poles, some umbrellas, some élan, and a bit of luck. Gunter was the only one who really wanted to get into the water....

Here are some from the alternative walk, taken by Cash Converta:

And here are some runners (Le W*nk was MIA, having completed the J2J run that morning in a pretty creditable time):

We adjourned to the comparative warmth of the hares' place, where Cash Converta took pictures of people, while Redbreast concentrated on feet:

French Connection 2025

Every year at this time we dress up in the costume which every French person wears every day...striped shirt, red bandana, beret...to celebrate the storming of the Bastille and the Dawning of a New Age (as the textbooks have it). It's highly appropriate now we seem to be entering an even newer age of autocratic monarchy. And this year even the one genuine French person among us wore the uniform. Here's the group at the start, looking very French indeed:

Our hares took us on a very enjoyable trail - through the woods, across the South Pine, through the fields, and on past the crowds attending the Samford Show. One walker got wet feet, but no-one got lost. And Floater, just back from 8 days hiking the Tasmanian mountains, was not too tired to join the runners' group.

Back at the hares' we were treated to a French feast - magnifique! The menu would have looked very impressive in the original, but it tasted just as good in English. It included French pastries, French chicken, French quiche, French mousse, and some little French tarts (there's nothing like a little French tart, is there?) Many thanks indeed to our hares!
