Mum's the word again!

We missed out last year because of you-know-what...so wasn't it good to be able to take another trip down Mammary Lane this second Sunday of May? Our hare for this year's Mum's Day run/walk took us on a peaceful stroll through some choice real estate with stunning views all round. Wouldn't Mirvac like to get hands on it? - if only they could shift its current inhabitants somewhere else? Sadly for them, the current inhabitants include some of Queensland's foremost citizens in all sorts of fields of endeavour, and given the amount of marble and granite piled on top of them, they're not going anywhere. The runners added a circuit around the Mt Coot-tha Gardens, another example of prime real estate just going to waste....

Back home in Anzac Park, there was fizz for mums, courtesy of our Hash winers Shaggy and Cadbury! And for the beer drinkers, our Beermeisters Upstanding and Idle Vice provided another top-notch selection. And these really complemented some luscious nosh, courtesy of our hare Superhacker! Many thanks, guys!

As we've remarked before, there's no need to be a physical mother to exhibit motherly behaviour and receive our classy Mother Superior Award (after all, many Mother Superiors have not had children that we know of, have they?) But this year's recipient, Superhacker, has just become a mother for the second time. Here is our first glimpse of the newest addition to the Hash - Teddy - with his mum....

Superhacker was the one who instituted the Mother Superior award back in 2011. She's since waited a decade to receive the garments back after modeling them then.  Once again she showed off the formidable foundation-wear with style! (She must have been practising the poses....) Congratulations!

Red flags/brown bags

It had been raining for the last couple of days, but our gallant hares still managed to mark a couple of great trails during the clear spells. Congratulations to Prattle for flour-marking her first-ever runners' route! (It took the runners through some sneaky little twists and turns and then along the railway line to Grovely before they headed home along the creek line.) And congratulations to Lax for a well-marked and interesting walkers' route - which surprised them by taking them past the impressive headquarters of the Brisbane Brass Music Association! The hares' kitchen is apparently a non-functioning renovator's nightmare at the moment, but they managed to produce a meal to their usual standard....Many thanks, guys!

This year marks 130 years since the highly influential Queensland Shearers' Strike and 132 years since Jim Connell penned "The Red Flag". So we celebrated some Queensland history this Labour Day weekend with the presentation of a brown paper bag to a representative of the ETU:

and with a rendition of the old socialist anthem that would have brought tears to the eyes of anyone who happened to overhear it:

We also held a naming ceremony for a couple who have been regular in their attendance for quite a number of weeks. Henceforth they are to be know as (drumroll, please) Saucy Sous and Dumbbell! They were welcomed with our usual quaint ritual:

And we look forward to their first run, coming up shortly.

Also coming up shortly (on Sunday 16th May) is the Samford Edible Garden Trail Open Day, which features Floater and Scratchit's impressive cornucopia (look it up) garden amongst a wide diversity of others. You'll need tickets ($10 for first adult, $5 for subsequent ones) and you can get those here. Tours of Floater and Scratchit's garden are scheduled for 10.30 am and 2 pm.

There's been an exchange this week between Samford Hash and Where's the Beef? in Tokyo. We quote:

"SH email: The wine drinkers were in a panic on Sunday when they realised there was no wine esky. However, Le W*nk turned up with it, which settled a few withdrawal symptoms.

WTB?: Knowing Le W, didn’t he show up with an empty wine esky?  And probably blamed George!

SH: Poor old George. He has a lot to put up with.

WTB?: We miss that dog.  And George, too.  Please say On on! to everyone for us.  Cheers, WTB? and IYD. PS We're back in a State of Emergency here in Tokyo.  Luckily our next several Sumo H3 Runs are in Kanagawa Prefecture so we should be good to go."

We wish Where's the Beef? and In Your Dreams all the best in their locked-down (sort of) state. It's good to hear from them.
