Rain, rain go away...and it did

Here's Payback's run report for Sunday's excursion - thanks to him!

"Although we expected a Woolcock Park washout, the afternoon proved rain free as we traipsed around the alternate Wilston trail. However, the humidity took its toll, with the hashers returning in a lather of sweat.

As it was kerbside collection time, there were lots of interesting items placed on the footpaths. Some of the hashers couldn’t help themselves and souvenired a few objects. Back at the hares’ lair there were various comments about some of the good stuff that had been thrown out. Wilston definitely provides a better class of rubbish for collection.

Once we cooled off with a few cold beverages, Idle Vice and Upstanding treated us with sausages and healthy side dishes. Decadent home made brownies, chocolates and jelly snakes followed."

Here are some of Snappy's pics from the occasion - thanks to her!

No rain at all, after a morning in which it bucketed down:

Earlier in the week a number of us gathered to cheer on our entrants in the Dayboro International Beer Mile. Due to injury and illness there were only three runners in Samford Hash shirts this year, and they all did very well....It was a fast race too, with the winner clocking a time of 9 minutes, compared to last year's winning time of 10 mins and 38 seconds! Congrats to Banger, Le W*nk and Shockjock for completing the course and keeping the beer down. And they were not too exhausted after the mile to go on and run the 3-legged race as well!

P*ssed on/p*ssed off

[The text for this week's post has been penned by a dripping Payback. Photos are all by Saucy Sous.]

Gunther, as enthusiastic as ever, greeted Payback with a golden shower on his shoe. Payback was pissed off.

During the pre-run banter, Shockjock recounted the flooding history of the area and the mitigation measures taken.

After much yawning, we finally set off into the hot and steamy afternoon. As we approached the mighty Brisbane River we reveled in the cooling river breeze.  We headed along the Coronation Drive bikeway toward the Grey Street bridge and marveled at the ever changing city skyline.

Shockjock and Miss Demeanour provided an Australia day feast which started off with an entree of vegemite sandwiches. We then progressed to meat pies and some green stuff. And continuing the Australia day theme, we finished off with some tasty lamingtons. What a great Australia day feast!

The obligatory thong throwing contest followed. Dumbbell won this event with a huge record breaking toss. The hashing spectators were awestruck by his athletic prowess, with some shouting 'what a tosser'.

Thanks to our hares for an entertaining afternoon.

[And thanks to Payback and Saucy Sous. It's the Dayboro Beer Mile this Friday!]

Three wise monkeys

Until now, you probably thought the worst invasive animal pests to make it across the ditch to New Zealand were possums. Well, look out, Kiwiland! These three monkeys are on their way:

With almost twenty of our members heading off for Interhash in Queenstown, there's inevitably a lot of talk about it at the moment - the runs, the weather, the training needed for the Ballbreaker, the drinking vessels, the things to do around town....As Lax keeps reminding us, it's only a few weeks off. And before then we have the Dayboro Beer Mile challenge and some great local runs to look forward to!

Mossie spray was in high demand as the group gathered this last Sunday, and, boy, was it needed!

There seemed to be an International Anopheles Convention along the banks of the Pine River, following the wet weather we've been having. And it looked as though we might be getting some more weather... but all the clouds did was provide some spectacular cumulonimbus views:

Our hares had set a trail that showed off some of the local architectural and landscaping achievements as well as the local mosquito habitat. Here are some shots of the group gathering, and from the walk (and as usual, most of the photo credits go to Snappy!):

Back home at the hares' we enjoyed a burger feast followed by fruit and ice-cream! Many thanks to our hares, Budgie, Miss Behavin' and Co.!

And here we are - replenishing our precious bodily fluids, yammering on, and stuffing our faces:

Around this time of year we usually wag the Aussie flag a bit, though this rarely happens precisely on the controversial 26th of January. And Aussie flags are a bit hard to come by this year. Perhaps this coming Sunday we could celebrate Australian values and demonstrate our love of our country by trashing a Woolies store? Just a suggestion....
