Lest we forget

Lots of people wear their wobbly boots on ANZAC day, and feel the effects the day after. But Samford hashers are a sober lot, practising moderation in all things (ahem!) and we turned up at the Gaythorne RSL  bright-eyed, fresh-faced, and raring to go.

Rain had not obliterated the trail markings, and held off for the rest of the day...in fact, we even enjoyed a bit of late-afternoon sunshine. Our route took us through the former ACU campus and along the Kedron Brook bikeway. This, though busy, was not as busy as it is on a Saturday morning, when 600 parkrunners crowd the path. The walkers' trail turned round at a noteworthy stand of bromeliads, which afforded a "teachable moment" (to quote Idle Vice) for the less botanically-knowledgeable. The runners went on to the parkrun turnaround point.

Our meals back in the club were made even more enjoyable by the fact that the kitchen seemed to have forgotten Le Wank's, and the drink and the conversation flowed freely.

Everton Flats

Despite the name Everton Hills, the trail on Sunday was fairly flat. This suited the hashers recovering from injury and one other with a phantom injury.

We welcomed back James Bondage and Redbreasst whom we thought had migrated to Tasmania. And another welcome back to Idle Vice and Upstanding after a stint in WA.

Thanks to our hares for the interesting trail and the delicious Indian inspired spread.

The green, green grass of Highvale

It's been a while since we traversed the greensward (good word, that) beneath the Samford Downs powerlines. And it was a good afternoon to revisit the area. The air was crisp and clear - and the grass had been recently mown. The walkers completed an out-and-back route, while the runners tackled a more extended circuit. Pleasingly, Le W*nk and Budgie were foiled in their attempt to shortcut by turning back too soon....

Back home on the deck we wolfed down pasta, salad and ice-cream, and almost cleared out a pretty full beer esky. Many thanks to our hospitable hare Big Donk!

It seemed that one person had not absorbed the news about a 4 pm start. So - a down, down for Skippy!
